I went to see a bmw 2004 320i auto car with just 54 k mileage yesterday quoting 2,500 pounds

The car had the following advisory on last mot

how serious are they and how much would it cost to get it sorted?
The windscreen he said he would get it sorted from insurance company

nearside front lower suspension arm has slight play in a ball joint (2.4.g.2)
offside front lower suspension arm has slight play in a ball joint (2.4.g.2)
windscreen has damage to an area less than a 40mm circle outside zone 'a' (8.3.1d)
rear registration plate deteriorated but not likely to be misread (6.3.1d)
nail in offside front tyre
under-trays fitted obscuring some underside components
engine covers fitted obscuring some components in the engine bay
front discs lipped

Thanks

It needs a tyre repair and the rest is fine to know about but not necessarily do anything about for a bit

Sounds like a pedant for a tester.

Pretty much every car on the road will have slight play in front suspension arms. You might need to replace the arms or bushes in the next year £150 - £200 a side.

Windscreen could be insurance but be sure that the damage happened after you bought the car / insured it. Existing damage won't be covered. Cost your excess £75?

New plates are £15

Undertrays standard fit - stupid comment by the tester IMO

Front discs get 'lipped' pretty quickly. How thin they are is the key. Probably £250 - £300 for a garage to put new discs and pads on

None of that is an issue apart from the tyre.

They need to put that. It covers their arse that there could be something dodgy underneath, but they aren't allowed to remove it to check.

And its nice for an MOT to be carried out properly for once smile

Factor it into the costs, see if he'll come down a bit

I'm sure it's just fine... It's not as if E46s carried the E36's reputation for rot onwards, now is it...?

Spooky - read this last week on the subject of undertrays. You can certainly ignore those two advisories!

Agreed.

Not a pedantic tester, just a thorough one

only ignore them if you are happy they are not hiding anything. As with anything, go in with your eyes open wink
