Hello there , I purchased my 06 25k miles skoda superb a week ago and a did my usual checks over the vehicle which revealed that the power steering fluid was below the min mark , as was the engine oil. As this was from a main dealer I would have assumed that these as had been checked over as part of their service.

Anyway I topped up the engine oil with some 5w30 that I had in , but I didn't have any VW spec steering fluid. I thought then that I would service the car and removing the engine over has revealed a leak of some kind.

So if you please what could this be that is leaking? I want to report this to the dealer asap , I have already mentioned that it was not good enough to provide a vehicle that had not been checked!

Engine is 1.8t

I'd suggest you take it back to the seller as is & get them to look at it.
It could be either fluid - personally I'd guess at power steering fluid - & it needs cleaning off to give you a better chance of locating where it's actually coming from.

Looks mostly like engine oil in that picture - once a weepy gasket starts at the top of the engine it coats everything and makes further checks hard work. Well worth degreasing, fitting a new gasket and having a look again.

Generally the only time you would need to top up a power steering reservoir is when the system has a leak.

Don't think I'd be overly worried by that on a 9 year old car tbh.
