Currently looking into the possibility of a remap for my Saab.

It's an 08 plate 1.9tdi 150bhp model with 150,000 on the clock - I do pretty big motorway mileage - circa 850 a week.

What i'm trying to understand is if a remap will effect reliability at all?

Also the impact it'll have on MPG?

What sort of cost would I be looking at?

And finally of course - any recommendations for someone to do the work?

Cheers

As a comparison (not a direct one!) I've ran a remapped Merc E320cdi from 105k for 40k miles and never had a problem & it was more fuel efficient too. However, if you are looking at remapping a 150k mile manual, I'd be concerned at the clutch longevity as a good remapper will check this first before starting the mapping & would also be changing the oil more frequently than recommended.. A good remap will give more power/torque hence the engine won't be working as hard and should offer more mpg.....I too am looking for a Saab 9-3 tied 150 as well although have set a mileage limit of 100k miles & will either use a Bham based company who did my Merc or get on the Saab forum to see who is recommended

I think 'Neutron' on UKSaabs remaps diesels?

There's also Hirsch & I think Maptun do these but it's a fair few quid.

Cheers both - i'll check out the link.

With regard the clutch - it's not the original one that's in - its got about 70k on this one - but understand it's a consumable item that will require changing at some point.

I've found & heard recommendation about Angeltuning - it seems they can do they job for about £275

anyone heard anything about them? Also asked my regular Saab specialist but they've not come back to me yet.

My friend owns Tweekz and he has one of those Saab's as his daily which he mapped.
Its got similar miles to yours on so a very good person to ask.

This engine does respond well to a remap and its pretty bulletproof, the same engine is used in many Alfas and Ive seen reports of over 170hp. The main issue is the clutch will be a weak spot and assuming you will have a m32 gearbox which is also a big weakspot.

same engine I had in a Vectra,

decent mapping will see north of 190 horses and they are pretty bombproof, mine was mapped at 100k and ran to north of 300k (taxi) with no ill effect

Sounds like this could be a goer then - even a small increase in MPG will pay for the remap reasonably quickly with the amount of miles i'm doing.

Funny you should post this, and sorry for the hi-jack ...

But I'm collecting a 2004 2.2 TD 9-5 Auto with 110k on the clocks soon, and was wondering if I was a nutter for thinking of whacking a map on it. That 120bhp leaves a lot to be desired.

They came to me to map a 1.8t passat and i was very happy with the service. Car was transformed after the treatment.
Not sure about the map details but no complaints here, my only concerns at that mileage are the extra stresses on the turbo, but if you dont drive like a loon all should be fine.

I had a 9-3 mapped, 150 to about 190, it was a 55 plate and on 40k it was driven until 119k with no I'll effects relating to the map, serviced at main dealer too and it was never mentioned or removed.

I thought these engines were particularly fragile? Assuming its the Vauxhaal 1.9?

I've had my Citroen C5 2.2 HDi remapped. Certainly a lot more torque (supposedly 370Nm -> 440Nm) and about 30BHP (170 -> 200) gain.
EGR & DPF delete at the same time.

The clutch does now slip when it's warmed up but only at low revs so can still use most of the performance gain.

So far the displayed MPG on the trip computer has gone up massively but the tank-to-tank calculations have shown that, at the moment, my MPG is about the worst it has ever been. I haven't done quite as much motorway driving as previously but I wasn't expecting the MPG to drop so much.
Having said that - you do get addicted to the torque so that might also explain the worse MPG!

I have a 320CDI, am considering the remap, how much extra is your insurance?
