Tonight the M62 west bound was reduced to chaos with a 12 Mile tail back from Howden to Melton because a Truck had flouted the restriction against high sided vehicles using the Ouse Bridge due to high winds. It was very fortunately for me I was on the opposite carriageway.

This is common occurrence, this morning I actually counted 6 trucks flouting the restriction and even mentioned it to my passenger. This evening despite the opposite carriage being complete closed, matrix signs, numerous traffic and local news reports. There were two more trucks flouting the restriction again. As I travelled under the Humber Bridge there was another truck crossing that despite it also being closed to high sided traffic.

This is one restriction the Police never seem to enforce.

Define 'high sided'. If it said 'not over 7.5t gross vehicle weight' then it wouldn't be subjective.

box vans and containers mainly but also stuff like car transporters if loaded normal flat trailer if loaded up high - and that's the problem it's about the centre of effort of the 'sail' vs the centre of gravity of the vehicle and load ...

I've seen the same coming over Woodhead Pass. Saw the sign saying 'closed to HGVs' or similar and thought 'yes, decent blast back home' then a few miles later, stuck behind a bloody truck.

Sold my daily driver to a lad from work today,he lives in Barton ( upon humber,South end of the bridge). He drove over the bridge to mine then set off back by which time the bridge was closed 1430 ish. He then set off down the M62 to go the long way round instead only for that to be closed at the Ouse bridge,he was still there at 7pm when I sent him a picture of my pint in the restaurant!

Often the Cat and Fiddle is shut during winter because of snow. Or rather lorry drivers ignoring common sense and getting stuck on the road up, slipping sideways and blocking the road for all other traffic. Utterly selfish and has been going on for years. It's just about stopped now as they close the entire road at the drop of a hat now. Even then a few lorries simply ignore the electronic 'Road Closed' signs at both ends and make the attempted crossing so last snow there were police posted at both ends of the road. Cue some angry truckers being told if they didn't turn around they'd get points. Not sure why they thought 'Road Closed' signs didn't apply to them.

All that jazz

A 16ft double deck trailer loaded with 26 tonne isn't going anywhere unless it's a hurricane. An empty Transit will be on its side within 10ft of setting foot on the bridge. The police generally turn a blind eye to enforcing it for that reason but if you do go over then there a high chance of getting a DWDCA.

5 fkng hours. 5 from Humber bridge to,Ouse bridge.

They had two lanes blocked and we standing around with a fork lift.

The caravan or whatever it was was completely in the hard shoulder why didn't they open two lanes and wait for a crane in the night.

5 fking hours.

Yes, they could have opened at least one, probably two.

Wind would have been blowing it further off the bridge not towards the traffic.

Trucks were still flouting the restriction again this morning and not single Police car in sight.

Not a car in sight is probably due to the fact that a police traffic officer acquaintance of mine told me that there are2 out at any one time, for the whole of the North bank, that's Goole to Bridlington !

On the M6 up to J21 tonight, over the Thelwall viaduct. Appalling weather, very windy with the worst visibility I've experienced in 10 years. Nearly all traffic in the first two lanes as there was too much water in the outside lane. Lorries still overtaking each other going over the bridge, effectively pushing car drivers who wanted a bigger safety envelope (me in a Grand Cherokee) into the outside lane. Why oh why can't these dorks just sit behind each other for 5 bloody minutes while they're going over the bridge for the sake of everyone else's safety?

Prosecuted? After 5 hours I wanted them dangling off that bridge.

Send a message smile

Pic is interesting. So in 8 or so hours ( apparently it happened earlier) by the time I got all they had done is brought a forklift to the scene.

When I got there the truck was gone porta cabin was in exactly same place jammed up against railings.
