RE: Porsche Boxster Spyder is back!
Discussion
Pretty sure Porsche havent this sort of sense of humour as its on their website and microsite. http://www.porsche.com/uk/
Dont think it has the same visual impact against a BGTS that the 987 Spyder had against a Boxster S when it was launched in 2010, but I do love it. Pretty sure it'll be an amazing drive and the roof looks a lot easier than my 987's... Does anyone know if this is a production run or a limited number?

I like the previous Spyder and I am liking the look of this too, however I still don't like that roof.
Why not just give it proper targa lift off hard panels ala the Carrera GT instead of messing around with origami roofs which look naff. Would make the lines much cleaner when the roof was on and would be a lot less of a faff to remove, plus make it into a mini Carrera GT which is no bad thing.

Visually the base 981 Boxster is a better looking car to my eyes.
What happened with the 987 Spyder is that the base model design was very long in the tooth, so designers tweaked a few details and presented a product that looked positively spectacular in comparison.
The 981 is still a fresh design and a very good one at that. The bar was set quite high by the designers of the base car, yet they tried to apply the same tweaks as with the 987 and the result is not very impressive at all. The front bumper is obviously GT4 parts bin and doesn't suit the lines of the car but they have to recoup the GT4 R&D costs somehow. Same applies to the 3.8L engine.
I wouldn't go as far as saying it's a visual failure because I haven't seen it in the flesh, but I prefer the 981 over the 981 Spyder on the computer screen, whereas the 987 Spyder looks far more "special" than the base 987. Both in images and in the metal.

In an age of 'convertibles' which are, effectively, as watertight and quiet as tin-tops thanks to all that electric roof wooshy, that's just a convertible - and a bloody nice looking one too - £60K tho, that's quite a lot.
I know we bang-on about 'inflation' and stuff but the last Boxster Spyder wasn't "2 fully-loaded hot hatches" to buy was it?

This is not an april's fool joke, it's real. It was rumoured for months.
If it is a joke most of the auto press are in on it It is on their German website: http://www.porsche.com/germany/models/boxster/boxs...

Potentially a stupid question but how does a 'flat' 6 from a 911 work in a Boxster that traditionally has a 'boxer' engine?
Potentially a stupid answer but I thought a boxer WAS a flat six engine...Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
