OK, a "valid" insurance certificate then. The point is the MID is only a guide, not gospel.
It is supposed to be gospel - that's why it was set up.If your cars not on it, it comes up with a big red X and something about risk of your car being no longer a valid entity.
If someone has no certificate or one youre not certain about and it's not on MID do you let it go?

And still you miss the point.
Your CHOICE not to use your car until MID showed the policy was exactly that - your choice. No more, no less. It was a choice based on misconceptions and paranoia. It was a choice that, to be consistent, you should apply to EVERY policy change.
Misconceptions yes, paranoia no. If I had driven the car then got stopped and somehow been booked for having no insurance then moaned on here, I'm sure you'd have been one of the first to bark "You should have made sure your car was insured mate".Your CHOICE not to use your car until MID showed the policy was exactly that - your choice. At no point when I asked the insurance company did they tell me I could drive the car while waiting new certificates and MID confirmation. So yes, upon not being told otherwise, I assumed the side of caution and didn't use the car. So yes it was MY choice to be safe, just like it is your choice to be an absolute argumentative moron just so you can have the 'last word'..

And there's my point. I get pulled over with a car with E*** **Y plates and in my hand I'm holding a certificate for the car with reg D* **G....thats not a VALID insurance certificate is it mate?! I'd love to see some of you argue these points with the plod... 3xpendable said:

Sorry, I thought we were talking about insured cars that weren't yet showing on the MID?3xpendable said:

Umm, yes, it may very well relate to a perfectly valid policy.TooMany2cvs said:

Did they tell you that you couldn't?No, but then i compete in motorsport and in any rulebook it states words to the effect if "Unless we explicitly state you CAN do something, then you CANNOT"...they didn't tell me I couldnt, but they also didn't tell me it would be ok to drive while the certificate change took place.

Something which takes 2 weeks to update in either direction is never going to be gospel. If your cars not on it, it comes up with a big red X and something about risk of your car being no longer a valid entity.

That's one of the reasons they dropped the check when taxing a car - the database is always out of date and not realtime.
It is run by experian and is actually primarily a profit making thing designed to charge people for accessing it. They allow the police free access as a "public service".

And again, my point is to priove this it would have involved being stopped by the police and at best sitting on the side of the road for 10 mins or getting a producer, at worst someone deciding it isn't insured because it's not on the MID and impouding it. But clearly according to the gods of PH I'm totally wrong for wanting to be cautious.
If it cant do what it's supposed to it makes you wonder what the point of it is.What was so wrong with an insurance co issuing a cover note?

There is an outside chance. Just as there is every time you change policy or buy a different car or whatever. Nobody has said otherwise.3xpendable said:

The only argument here is where "caution" crosses the line to "paranoia", and why you view the choice you chose to make as somebody else's fault.Ive just changed the plate on a recently purchased car to my personalised plate, rang my insurer as soon as the new V5c landed with my personalised plate on it.
Paid the dues to change the details on the policy and was told by the guy on the phone that the details would be on the system within the hour.
I checked on the askMID website and as he had said the details were all updated, the old now unused registration of the car was showing as no longer insured and my personalised plate which is on my car was showing as insured.
I guess it varied between insurers and brokers as to the time it takes to update their systems but I have never had to wait more than a hour to download new documents or for the systems to be showing as all ok. Same as when I rang insurer to give them the details of my latest car, by the time I had got to the local post office, about 20 to 30 mins, it was showing as insured so they didn't want to see the documents I had printed.
I taxed it at the post office as I wanted to pay the road fund license with cash and its a bit tricky to do that over the net or phone.
