Caterham R500 or an Atom 300

You simply can't beat the zero inertia feeling these types of cars give.

Something big power with RWD so you can actually have some fun getting it to move around underneath you, either that or an atom and a runaround.
hehe

I Love you driving gods
I wouldn't go that far but there's nothing arrogant about what I wrote, just writing from personal experience, having owned and tracked a 530bhp Corvette Z06 and some other of my friends toys as well.

I loved my corvette and compared to my friends GTR I found it much more rewarding to own. rolleyes

boxedin - sorry. I thought offering my opinion based on my own experience was a good thing, forgot this is PH and I'm supposed to post a sarcastic and pointless comment that contributes nothing to the thread other than to make me feel a bit better about my pathetic life for a split second before returning to the feeling of knowing my life is basically a joyless black hole of misery where I'll be condemned to drive stty cars for the rest of my life...and on that note, back over to you Mr Lost Soul.

I'm not thinking about changing at the moment, but out of curiosity where have people went after the R35 or who has had a car they would recommend as a replacement for the R35 and most importantly WHY? smile
Audi RS6

Both cars list at £78k, offer around the same power, but in my opinion the Audi is so much nicer. It's the ultimate family wagon, it's practical, you can sit at high speed in comfort with your 3 kids, nagging missus, dog and golf clubs. The 4.0TT engine and transmission are gems. 560hp upto over 700hp with just a £600 tune (Try that in a GTR, you would need to go stage 5 at a cost of £10k+ rebuilt engine etc)

In standard form, it is no slouch, mid 3's to 60, with a tune, they will dip under 3's. The near identical Audi RS7 is managing to do low 10 1/4m's with just 750hp. (standard turbos) - So performance is on a par like for like.

The Audi is far more mature, it's an animal when it wants to be but doesn't shout about it as loud as the Nissan.

It's in tax band K (£290pa) vs Band M (£505) for the GTR (2015/16 rates) - Not sure on running costs but imagine they'll be similar.

Dare I say it, it's an Audi, not a Nissan. What else is there to say really? In my opinion, it's a better car in a lot of ways. Yes, it's not going to lap the Nurburgring quicker but chances are, neither will you, 98% of us go nowhere near race tracks.

It's a much nicer looking car also, the Nissan GTR has never been praised for the way it looks, the RS6 does...

Audi S8/RS7 are also considerations should the estate look put someone off. Both share pretty much the same setup as the RS6. The BMW M5/M6 and Mercedes C63/E63 AMG are other paths some owners go down.

Good shout above with the RS6. If you need the back seats, that is the one.
If you don't, go F-Type R.

I went from the following combo :

R35 GTR - always wanted one - does have it flaws

To

Lotus 2-Eleven - wanted to do more track days

To now

Audi S6 5.2 V10 hmmm effortless luxury and power in a relatively straight line plus now have a little one

I'd take a comfy V8 cruiser, more than likely a Mercedes, and a new R1. Or a 1299 Panigale. Or an S1000RR, take your pick.

Don't think the RS6 is better looking than the GTR, but I do really like them, although nowhere near ready for a family car yet :P.

The Lotus 2-Eleven interests me, how was that to own and drive?

I hadn't really paid much attention to the RS6 until now. That's a seriously impressive car, especially in getting it under 225g/km for the tax.

Like the idea of an Atom and a runaround, wonder how atoms are to run on a track (consumable wise).
Consumable wise on track, they are relatively cheap. Because they are light, they aren't hard on brakes etc. Tyres (especially the fronts) last a fair while. Fuel wise will be better than your GTR. If you know which end of a spanner to hold they are simple to service, and if you don't the factory is reasonably priced or you could take it to a Honda dealer smile

Keep the GTR, visit Severn Valley Performance/Litchfield or whoever you prefer spend a few grand and enjoy the resulting 700bhp monster GTR you now own.
