Loving the Jag XF makes a real change from "got my head up the exhaust can't see the wood for the tree's type car"

As regards the mpg quoted for XF V8 they are on par with my 06 STR so disapointed considering the 5.0 DFI V8 is more efficiant when on stratified combustion but appreciate its the same on homogeneous combustion.

As regards the brakes the XF chassis and carry over components are very much the same as the late STR cars so apart from the bigger Teves single piston front calipers fitted to the later R XF, 18" should not be a problem unless Jaguar fitted these to the XF V8 as well?

Mine has Dunlop Sport tyres fitted and I'm not that impressed with them. Maybe I'll give the Michelin Pilots a go, although these are generally not well thought of among Jaguar fans, apparently.
The Pilot Super Sports are the best road tyres I've ever had on a Jag, and I've had most of the high end tyres.

To be fair, most of the owners on Jag forums insist that you can't tell the difference between high end sports orientated tyres and stuff like Kumhos.

Try the Michelins. You won't be disappointed. wink

Thanks too for the suggestions on new tyre brands to try next, will definitely research those more. These tyres were what were fitted by the dealer when I purchased it, so just waiting for them to wear out now basically.

For the fuel and insurance costs I'd need more from a car. Your just hemorrhaging money on the off chance some leftfield dude will get it. It's just a boring car with a slightly cool engine..........but not great.

I'm bias as I have an XFR, but who cares what someone else thinks - these cars make perfect sense when you're sat behind the wheel. Boring would not be a word I'd use anywhere near one.

Worth. Every. Penny.

Great car OP - enjoy.

I normally like my cars and their interiors a bit more understated but I thought the interior looked a bit crap to be honest - the car as a package sounds lovely though and I really do like this generation of Jaaaaaaags.

Top comment on the fuel economy too! Who cares? Just drive it until it's empty and then fill it up again! Good show!

Forgot to add, I bought a set of used Jag Venus alloys off eBay for about £150 and mounted some decent winter rubber on them.

It's a tight fit, but 18"s are the smallest that fit over the front 355mm discs! Quite big stoppers them, and the XFRs are even bigger (I think). Iirc, 19" are the smallest that fit on an XFR, oh and they're staggered too, unlike the car here.

This write up has given me "ammunition" for my what car next argument. You may well have changed my life for the better.

Thank you. Oh and enjoy your splendid car!

I really quite like that but I couldn't stomach those fuel costs!

I have a V8 E39 which is probably just as bad but the car cost so little to buy I can put the cost in perspective, and there's no depreciation to think about. It still hurts at the pump throwing in £50 after £50 to travel virtually nowhere.

First in with the "3 mile commute and you use a 5 litre V8?"

3 miles - 5km (5000 metres....) not very long to warm up - hopefully you take the long way home wink

Enjoy while you can !
Better than a diesel barely getting warm and choking on it's own carbon.

Like I said earlier, if your commute is more than walking distance wink you'll see low to mid 20's and a long cross-country trip of a few hundred miles will see almost 35mpg.

It's nice when the thing you looked at, early on, is still available for sale when you come round at the end. Better that, than months or years of "I should've..."
Agreed .. not often that's the case!

As a previous owner of an XFR, I think the N/A V8 is probably the sweet spot for the XF. The R is stupidly fast, totally 'unnecessary' nowadays. Stick a Spires system on it and enjoy that proper V8 woofle just wafting about. The seats are awesome, the small tank is a pain, but the R achieved 23mpg average over the year (90km round trips every day), so you must be caning it (which is A Good Thing) or it's not getting warm on your short trips. Either way, the XF is massively underrated on here usually. I saw a baby blue facelift 3l petrol AWD prowling about on the snowy roads of a ski resort earlier this year, it looked like it had beamed down from another planet amongst all the grey/black Tiguans, Cayennes and Audi estates.

he's getting the same mpg as me in a 3.2 xj8 with an extra 145bhp and I do 3.5 miles to work and by the time you've finished stop starting mine is totally warmed up
I wouldn't have thought you're getting totally warmed up in 3.5 miles unless a horrendous amount of traffic is involved. I used to drive my E39 M5 to work occasionally which is a journey of just over 3 miles/~10-12 mins and the oil temp gauge would have barely moved upon arrival.
25 to 30 minutes that's why the mx5 went uncomfortable and the route has shocking potholes

Edited by mr TICKHILL on Monday 6th April 11:35
30 mins to do 3.5 miles... That's 7 MPH. You could cycle it in half that time (without going fast enough to the hot) or walk it in not much longer. I couldn't bring myself to drive that, warming up or not. I wonder how much the low MPG has to do with that drive. I'm not sure how you even noticed the pot holes at that speed.
I know I just couldn't be bothered to cycle after work and I'd begrudge it just sitting about doing nothing
Sat in a V8 doing 0mph for 30 minutes. Must be a complete hoot.

Thanks again folks. Nice to hear the comments.

Must admit, I was always surprised when I checked and it was still for sale. Suspect it appeals to a very limited audience though. People either want the diesels or the XFR I suppose.

Agree with this. For an everyday car, it does all you could ever ask for. An 'R' would be amazing, but the limited opportunities to use that extra performance might annoy me.

Would love a Spires system, but worried that it would be too intrusive on those longer family journeys. Did you ever find that?
