You're absolutely right about that. But the fact remains that people *can* influence their own abilities as road users, and they *can't* influence the abilities of others. And it also remains a fact that the (in)abilities of others are far more likely to harm you if you are on a bike than they are if you are driving a car or flying an aeroplane.

Thought it was better to reply to this 10 year old thread rather than make a new one for the same topic.



The old one is a good enough car at the prices they now fetch, but I’ve never really understood the hype for the last ST. The engine just doesn’t feel as special (not that the last one was anything unique), but the gawky MPV looks and the ridiculous price just look silly. To drive, well its good enough, but not amazing enough to be anything special. I always preferred the F56 Mini Cooper S to drive and it just feels more substantial as a car. If the Fiesta ST was £15k, then I would rave about it but it was nearly 30 grand by the end. And for that I feel like the Mini and the I20 N st all over it, and people always rave about it with rose tinted Ford spectacles.

Feel like this thread is going to light the touchpaper for a lot of people but, with the proviso that the one I briefly owned was 15 years old and not factory fresh, I had a 3L v6 Alfa GTV and on the occasional day the engine fancied working properly I still found the experience underwhelming despite the good reviews at the time

Handling wasn't anything exciting, engine wasn't as interesting sounding or charismatic as I hoped and the interior looked way better in pictures. Ignoring the practical aspects, and the issues, I really felt like the car was all about the image. But willing to admit maybe a brand new one felt quite different.

The boy has a 22 plate Mean Green 3 door with the Ford Performance bits and driven in anger I think it's absolutely brilliant.

Anything other than ten tenths and it's just a Ford Fiesta, but at ten tenths I think it's really entertaining to drive.

8mpg is a bit challenging to live with for a little three cylinder, but I suppose you couldn't drive it that way for long. laugh

I think you have to drive one hard (preferably on a track) to appreciate them

As you say, driving one on the road it's just a bad riding Fiesta, whereas something like a MINI has a bit more quality and sense of occasion about it

Drive one round a track and you can thrown them at a corner and launch them off kerbs like a mini BTCC car while the MINI is rattling around with a heavy nose and an impending dose of snap oversteer
