Insurance isn't that bad: as a guideline, I drive an XJ6, and my quote, at 19 years of age, was £900. This was 8 months ago.

I have just done a quote for this car and it is £1000 for me: at 19, £1000 is extremely low insurance for such a car.

I urge anyone with concerns about insurance to run a quote through the comparison websites: you may be surprised...
I'm 21 in August, for me the lowest cost of insurance (confused.com) is £2003.
I have 3 years no claims and my job is a systems engineer. I think the price is so high because of my F rated postcode unfortunately.
Car insurance isn't fair.
Try it as a modern classic? Most companies seem to start this option at 10 years old. You don't get NCD but it's normally so much cheaper it doesn't matter. I had my NCD lodged when I did it, so it was still live next time I needed to use it.
You might have to ring places not ask meercats though.

Top shedding.
I want a flat 6 Porsche engine coffee table - not sure my wife would like it though.

You forgot to make a Top Gear style sofa set out of the seats

I've got mine insured as a classic, a smidgen over £250 p/a, at 27 years old.

IT'S GOT A SUPERCHARGER! FOR £1300!

The rest is just details really. In the real world though just a humble n/a model would do for bobbing around at the weekends. Life really is too short not to

I love my 3.2 v8 XJ

Just something effortlessly cool about it even if the electric aerial does look like it was nicked from a Ford Cortina

Not using confused.com would be a decent start.

I'm 23 and insure a XJ6 3.2 for 500 for the year, and this is in one of the worst rated postcodes you could imagine.

Only strange people want to rock Jags at a low age biggrin.

This Jaguar always reminds me of coronation street ,Mike Baldwin, a dodgy dealer in his 50"s .
I don't even like coronation street but as a kid my parents watched it.

I used confused.com and had no trouble, where did you search? If I can better my own price, I would love to find out how smile

Hmm... Insurance is definitely not fair! I had a XJ8 Sport which I covered about 20k a year in for 2 years. My insurance was £1200 a year and I could not get it cheaper anywhere. I think at the time I had 3 years NCB and was 35 years old. It's the only thing that puts me off buying one again.

They are cheap to maintain and will do up to 30 MPG on a run. My highest ever over 30 miles was 32.2 MPG but I never managed to get more than 31 when I tried to do it again. As none of my cars have never done much more than 30 mpg this was a very welcome surprise. The sport models do handle really well and are whisper quiet even at 100 MPH, as you would expect. As with any car, the engines are very reliable if looked after. They are not as fragile as all the internet stories will have you believe and they will not just 'blow up' as some posters have said. The gearbox failing is the biggest issue you could face with these. Everything else is robust and easy to maintain.

And with regards to the breaking comments, My car was maintained regardless of cost and then was involved in a crash on the M25. Front end was damaged but radiator was intact so not too heavy a smash. I tried for months to break it (unsuccessfully) and only managed to sell the wheels and rear bumper. I only wanted £200 for the engine and £150 for the (recently serviced-£300) Gearbox but no luck. Even though there are many XJ8s out there that have failed G/Boxes I could not sell mine for £150!!! Think I gave it away in the end for bugger all. Worth considering before the 'break it when it dies' comments smile

Still miss mine, I got my mits on some BBS Milans after a while but changed back to the original 16s due to car riding better and steering nicely with the smaller, lighter wheels.

If I had a big enough space in which to park it I would have bought one of these already. Always thought it was a shame there was no XJ coupe during the X300/X350 era mind.

The old XJ-C was always the true looker of the Jaguar range for me. Much more so than the XJS.

Damn shed... mine is up for sale (for more than that, and it's an X300 not 308) and now I really don't want to sell it...

One of my favorites too - there used to be a red convertible version locally, always looked so right (despite not being a factory car).

I enjoyed this Harry's Garage film recently about his XJ-C V12 manual:

When it dies break it. Top shedding.
Why do people always trot this out? It's hardly simple, legal or socially acceptable for Average Joe to break a car at home and you'll be stuck with 2/3 of a car for an absolute AGE!

Lovely shed though.
I have done this with a dead car, couple of weekends work then a scrappy came and took the shell on a lorry. It was simple legal, socially acceptable and most importantly profitable.
If it was profitable, it wasn't legal unless you hold the relevant environmental permit and depolluted the vehicle in the appropriate manner smile
Surely if you drain the fluids (without spillage) and dispose of them properly then there's no other issues of concern? If there is, then have I been 'breaking the law' every time I carry out a home oil change?

This car is the Terry Wogan of motoring. Everbody over 30 likes it, and it does everything quite well. However, it's a bit too dated and expensive to run to be used every day. I say use it once a week and bring it out for special occasions, to add a bit of timeless, comfortable old school class to proceedings.

I've been wanting one of these for a while but just can't justify changing cars at the moment. £700 is a bargain for one of these (assuming it isn't totally shagged). Had a few insurance quotes and even the XJR is cheaper to insure than a 3.0 X-type.... confused

Nice waft factor. This one has the nicest colour combo for the interior IMO. But I've read the 6 engines are better than the later V8s?

Why is the Nikasil lined guff always mentioned in so many SOTW? When a car gets to shed age and money that type of problem is irrelevant because 1) if the problem was there it has likely been fixed already and 2) if a major fault happens the car is going to be scrapped anyway.
