The young girl in the Mk 5 Fiesta this afternoon. It's a bit long winded, but stay with me spin

I'm driving down a residential road with parked cars on either side. I see this girl driving towards me,so pull in to a gap and flash her to come through as there is a Focus directly behind her and a Transit waiting to get out of the junction just behind the Focus. I can also see another car following the Focus so decide I might as well let all these vehicles on their way.

For some reason, she carries on and then stops diagonally across behind a parked car. The Focus is now trapped as she is taking up half the road and nobody is able to enter or exit the junction where the Transit is sat.

I flash again and give her a "you first" sign. She shrugs and flashes me. We both do this twice more without success. I think about reversing, but decide this won't make any difference as there's plenty of room for her to drive past.

I edge slowly down and motion for her to move back a little as she has left hardly any room and I'm in a pretty big car. This will also allow me to to get past the Focus and prevent the Transit and other vehicles having to reverse.

This doesn't seem to have any effect as she just stares at me glazed-eyed. I now have to squeeze past her car as I can't reverse due to a skip lorry appearing on the road

The driver of the focus and a Civic behind it now have to reverse, as does the Transit and a Mondeo behind it, as I have to bump up the curb by the junction then enter part of the junction to get past the Focus safely.

I now look like a complete tt inconveniencing all these vehicles as the girls goes on her merry way. banghead

Please tell me where I'm going wrong? confused

Thanks for that.rolleyes You read my post, and rather than give an opinion on my handling of a driving situation (this is a motoring forum after all)you chose to focus on a single spelling mistake that I made?

This place makes me want to banghead sometimes!

Curb=Kerb
Cill=Sill

And a million other words have multiple variants that are perfectly acceptable.

It's not a spelling mistake, it's an incorrect word!

And I can choose to focus on what I want to, thanks very much.

The 2 wheeled tt yesterday. I'm in lane 2 on the A1,going to overtake someone in L1 a bit ahead. I'm doing 50,the limit there,when said tt roars up behind me, tailgates for a while,then undertakes me,and as he comes back into L2,looks,back and shakes his head,like it's ME in the wrong! No wonder so many bikers end up as premature organ donors!

Sorry, I work with and specify and buy and break and write and read and talk about kerbs all day every day and only in the merry old US of A do they even get close to getting away with using "curb", and even then it's picked up on more often than not.

It's kerb. 100% of the time, in this land. Kerb, kerbing, kerbed, kerb-stone, kerb-line, combined kerb and drainage system, kerbkerbkerbkerb.

If he had chance to tailgate you for a while and then undertake you I would say you are in the wrong as you obviously moved to lane 2 too soon. I'm not a bike fan by the way.

An easy way to remember - you have to curb your tendencies to kerb your alloys. wink

Based on the clear fact that the legal limit was 50mph at the time of the overtake and that the biker was not already overtaking, then that logic would ONLY be valid if the Bikers speedo was broken and he wrongly assumed everybody else was doing 40mph in a 50mph limit??.

Otherwise the biker was speeding significantly above the limit - which we ALL know never happens. wink

Huh?
It's not your job to be a MLM in order to stop someone else speeding. If someone has time to tailgate and undertake you, you are out in L2 too soon.

Exactly- lane 2 is fir overtaking. You obviously were not overtaking anything so should have been in lane 1. It's not for you to decide what speed others should be travelling at.

I thought Hol said he was overtaking though? Not being an MLM just not overtaking at 200% of the legal limit for instance?

The poster said he was "overtaking" a car that was, in his words "a bit ahead". It sounds to me like the typical situation where a car in L2 is slowly gaining on a car in L1 but could and should have moved back into L1 until it actually needs to pull out.

If the test is "Will I eventually overtake that car in L1 up ahead?" then people would almost never tuck back in.

I think that's what most people mean, when they say overtaking. "I'm going to pass him some time in the next ten minutes so why should I move over?" Bloody annoying that.

I wasn't driving, or in the car, or in the county??

But, I suppose the OP needs to define how far ahead 'a bit ahead' is then.

My own take on Kowalski665's explanation (also based on the other words he used in the rest of his explanation) is that he started overtaking when the biker roars up behind, tailgates and then undertakes - actions that would (in all planes of reality) have required significantly more speed than the 50mph limit.

ORD You obviously disagree with the above and therefore believe that Op's assertion that he wasn't the knob is false and he either pulled out to early for the traffic conditions and/or didn't look before pulling out on a biker hovering close to the rear of his car- neither of which are specifically covered in the OP's story.

Also, he mentions two lanes, so I have no idea how you concluded he was also guilty of MLM whiteknighood??

Only the OP can tell us the answers and confirm distances and speed in more detail.

If another motorist is able to 'tailgate for a while' while you're in lane 2, and then overtake you on the left, then you should have been in lane 1. It's not hard.

Personally I apply a ~10 second rule - if there is spaced out slower traffic in L1, I only stay in L2 if moving to L1 will result in me having to move to L2 again within ~10 seconds.
