We don't even say 'accident' anymore as apparently 'there are no accidents', I don't think it matters. I just say crash.
Take your point, but I don't think anyone really thinks of the word "accident" in the context of a car crash, and assumes it means no-one was to blame.

To be fair it was just a HR policy that we can't call them 'accidents' anymore, most of us still do

Some of your comments come across as logical and thought out.

it jumped out at me! it has a mild cringe element attached to it, in a kind of "ask me what i do for a living" kind of way.

RTA - Road Traffic Accident - Trees falling into the road, collisions with animals etc.

RTI - Road Traffic Incident - Any incident that can cause disruption, broken down vehicle causing an obstruction, burst water main or a mud slide for example.

RTC - Road Traffic Collision - A collision involving one or more vehicles where there is the possibility to assign blame.

There are more but those are the main three. All are still valid and in use depending upon the circumstances and individual interpretation.

RTA, RTC and RTI are used to prioritise the appropriate response.

I hope this helps the recurring tom-ate-oh, tow-mart-aw argument. smile

i'm not saying the terms don't exist just that the general public (as we are) don't generally use pocket protector nerd terms. We're not trainspotters.

That's just society paying attention to all the Police Crash Action Interceptors on telly all hours of the day these days. Those who still say "Accident" are probably old enough to remember The Bill. "Prang" "Shunt" (just Googling old cop shows) The Sweeny. "Bump" or "Fender Bender" Z-Cars or Dixon of Dock Green. cop

Colleague of mine got made redundant. He was up to his neck in debt and drove a perfectly serviceable Y plate Seat Toledo naturally aspirated 1.8 petrol.

Upon receiving his redundancy money he spend some of his new found riches on a 10 year old, diesel Mitsubishi Colt. The Seat still had finance outstanding and now the Colt does too.

Why did he swap cars? To save about 100 quid in tax. Trouble is the new car costs £200 more to insure hehe

Isn't it ridiculous when people justify buying a new car by telling you how much cheaper the tax is!

Or 'well it goes 50 to the gallon'

Nice one, so that was worth replacing your perfectly good car for and spending 15 grand on another one.

Surely it's easier to just admit you wanted a different car and be done with it laugh

People that walk along country roads at night, whist dressed in black from head to toe. WTF is wrong with these people? They must have a death wish.

Volvo estate driver, does the old indicate and straight away move manoeuvre, then slams the brakes once in the lane, 2 metres in front on me, as there is a traffic light queue in front which he didn't bother to look for..

We then get onto motorway I go to overtake, tries the same thing again, I beep my horn as I half way in parallel and he is making a move, he then flashes me a few times. But I am sure he will end up crashing considering how poor s/he drives.

When I was 9-10 years old I went out for drive with my Dad to see how his new car (Peugeot 405 estate, which many many years later became my first car) would do towing his caravan. Whilst travelling down a country A road with no pavements, at 8-9 pm on a dark winters night, a pissed up bloke dressed in dark clothing was walking back along the grass verge and stepped out into the road. He got hit by the wing mirror of the car, then the caravan. He was very, very lucky to survive.

Proper, weapons grade knobbery from me this morning.

Sitting at lights on a DC, I'm in lane 2 with a filter lane to my right, I'm at the front with loads of cars waiting in all lanes.
I notice the 2 blokes in the car behind smiling and giving the thumbs up and there's also 2 blokes in a van next to me in lane one doing the same. I give the thumbs up back to the van guys and they're nodding forward, smiling and making that "Go for it!" gesture with the hand.
If it had been youngsters in a hot hatch wanting to race me I wouldn't have bothered but it was a lovely bright day, completely clear dual carriageway in front of me and dry roads, I thought "Why not?" These are are all middle aged blokes like me just wanting to hear the car.

Now I don't mean some mental drag-strip launch but I thought I'll just stab through the first few gears and wake up the exhausts up a bit.
I see the green light and blast off, after a couple of gears the speedo is climbing a bit quickly so I lift off, when I look in the mirror everybody is still sitting back at the lights, I've gone on the filter!

So there's about 30 people back at the junction thinking "Who the hell does this wker think he is?"

Talk about cringe, I'm still feeling it now.

I even took the right at the next junction (which wasn't where I was going) just so I wouldn't have to see them again if they caught up!

Knob.

People who bang on about German cars being superior to every other brand because of the soft touch materials used on dashboards and around the cabin in general. Unless you rub yourself over the dash or centre console it doesn't really matter, what does matter are things like seats and noise level inside. I was a passenger in a new 4 series yesterday, it was only a short journey (Reading to London and back) but my arse was asleep half way and my back felt awful. I've had the same experience in Passats and Mercs, this isn't just an anti BMW post. I just feel for their price tags they should be able to offer something not st, although I may have been spoiled growing up with my dad owning an XM and his Xtype was pretty comfy too. I won't even compare it to my V70 even though it's a 17 year old shed, everyone knows the Swedes make the best seats!

Your penance is a £10 donation to Dr Barnardos and one solid face palm slap to the head.
