and more to the point if you have something like that on your land, is it not generally written into the deeds that you have to grant access? Otherwise BT would hardly be protecting their investment... how did they get it there in the first place, even if he wasn't the owner then?
It probably allows for repairs but not upgrades. The comments mention that a new cabinet would be bigger but it would hardly knock %50K off the value(vital fact for the DM of course)

Dont see why BT cant just build a new cabinet on the street.

Or wouldnt it be a shame if it caught fire, and had to be repaired evil

My understanding is that they did build the primary fibre cabinet off "his land", but need to upgrade the cab on "his land" to connect it to the new one before the service can be activated.

He is refusing them access to the cab completely at this stage, which means they can't connect the new one to it or do any work at all (including faults I assume).

Silly old goon.

Perhaps he is trying to get more money out of them, but he has totally blown that by setting the bar so high at £50k.

If I was BT I'd simply cut all connections to that cab and build a new one off his property, very slowly. Anyone complaining can take it up with him! Oh and of course, his telephone line will terminate at the existing box on "his property", i.e. disconnected permanently.

They've probably told him the cabinet will be larger and he's said no on that basis. Hence his "I've been wronged but I'll show them" posturing in the photos.

WOW, without knowing hardly anything you've predicted that he was speeding, marvelous.
well he described what sounded like a 'surprise' event, by saying that he had to really slam on the brakes. There is far less need for hard braking when travelling at the speed limit, or rather at an appropriate speed for the conditions and the particular situation, and being more aware of others. People pull out on roundabouts - it's not right, but it's common enough to be something to predict and avoid without it being some kind of surprise. I keep an eye on people waiting to enter roundabouts when I am on them - you can tell when someone hasn't seen you or isn't looking, or is starting to move. I'm not saying the old duffer should be on the road or was not to blame, but we've been round this a million times - you can't just point the finger at others if there's something you could have done to avoid.
Nope, not speeding. Old man just didn't look and pulled out in front of me (you give way to the right on a roundabout). it was a choice of using my brakes or having an accident

If you can mystically predict people randomly driving into your path, then you are a better driver than me...

My very first thought was 'arrogant tt' and that he must have known about the cabinet sized green box when he bought the house and is just holding out for a cash handout.

Then I looked at pictures and how bigger the new box is visibly and how much taller it is than the existing box, which looks to be level with his raised lawn.

If I was looking to buy a new house, id be thinking it looked a bit st, certainly not £50k st, but st enough to register as a negative for the house. (Which probably means he got a few quid off when HE bought it?)

BT should just move it elsewhere and be done with the affair, which according to the story is what they originally intended to do.

I wont let anyone out now unless their car is a lairy monster. Everyone else I let out seems to then pootle along in front of me under the limit, including someone in an S500 last night. What is the point in having power if you never use it?

Its a target, not a limit!

I must admit this is exactly what I do too if possible! Don't ease off, indicate out and drive past (providing safe to et cetera et cetera). It almost always causes them to erupt in a cloud of anger.

I am all for letting people out of junctions but if it is clear a car is approaching at speed why oh why pull out at the last second! This happens almost daily.

The muppet in the old Mercedes in front of me earlier. Sitting at a green light behind another car that wasn't moving. I beeped them both after a good long count to 15 to get the first guy going and I get a dirty look from Mercedes man in the mirror. Wasn't beeping at you mate, was beeping at the muppet in front of you who wasn't paying attention.

Anyway, we get moving. First muppet is off into the distance and the Mercedes muppet slows to 30 and hangs back off a in the left lane, we're in the right lane. Too scared to pass I guess, there's space on his left so I flash him and gesture left (nicely) as I want to get moving and want to pass the lorry, he waves at me and then slows even further to 25, sitting at 25 in the outside lane of the dual carriageway elephant racing a lorry... Luckily the wife was on hand to diffuse my anger or I'd have been a bit of a hot mess OR I'd have been one of those muppets who overtook on the opposite side of the road.. I was so close....

I don't get why you'd be happy to sit behind someone at a green light not moving, unless you're not paying attention too, but slowing down on purpose to wind someone up, I just do not have the patience for people like that today.

Stupid old bint who I had the misfortune of encountering on a 50 MPH Dual Carriageway yesterday morning.

She was sat doing no more than 25 MPH in the left hand lane, luckily the rest of the traffic was a good few car lengths behind me as I'd entered from a junction ahead of them, so I was able to move into the right hand lane and throw the hazard warnings on for a while before making the overtake - to warn those behind who no doubt would have obliterated the old deer (yes, it's 50 MPH limit but this is rarely followed and most people do 70-odd).

Checked the rear view after making the overtake and sure enough she'd nearly caused a pile up and had a significant tail back going. People honking horns, lights flashing, trying to get around her - she's merrily tootling along like something off Driving Miss Daisy, oblivious to the inconvenience she's causing.

Sorry to be an arse, but in all honesty - these people should NOT be allowed to drive. It's the same as the plebs out on country roads, 60 MPH limits and they're sat there tootling along at 20 MPH cos they're too scared to go any faster. Sorry but, if you're not comfortable driving on these sorts of roads then bugger off and find a different route or don't drive at all!

Why would you want to drive at 60 on a country road?

I am constantly driving on these type of highways and 60 is far too fast. For the next few months these roads are heavily foliaged with plenty of blind bends.

The local traffic police highlight these roads as the most hazardous in the county.

Hey, let's slow down a bit.

Me I'm afraid.

Yesterday on my way to work I reached a set of traffic lights on the outskirts of town. Rather than filer past a line of traffic I thought I'd be nice and wait behind a BMW hp-spec' three series.
As I'm not doing my cycle proficiency I kept the bike upright with my feet on the pedals. A few seconds later the lights changed to green and traffic started to flow until Mr HP-whip decided to brake test me twice and laugh as he/she/it drove off.

rolleyes

I filtered past him/her/it and two others at the next choke point, let the first two back past before signaling and pulling out into the middle of the road so I could turn right further up. I didn't retaliate in kind so far as brake testing goes but Mr HP-whip obviously thought I might as he/she/it backed right off.

I'm often reminded of the "Dicks, pussies and aholes" speech from Team America World Police. Mr HP-whip if you're a member of this very fine forum; don't be a brake testing ahole. wink

The old Bint was doing HALF the posted limit ffs!

Il go out on a limb here & say SHE is the problem, as are people like you with the 'It's a limit, not a target' mentality.

I have a 60 limited, but wide, road near my home with several safe overtake spots & the times I drive that behind these Bint types, or maybe even you, at 25/30mph usually as close to the crown of the road as they can get & get flashed or hooted at when I SAFELY overtake absolutely beggars belief!

The thing about country roads is...

Always drive however fast you feel is safe. If someone overtakes you it's their choice. If you get overtaken don't let it deflate your ego and try to keep up you're putting yourself at undue risk.

True........ But.

AJXX's original post was about a 50 mph DC. WD bought country roads into the equation.
