The retards on the news today that bought a massive car and are complaining that car park spaces are too small make me thing "knob".

If only you could buy smaller cars

Cars are getting bigger, roads and car parks more populated and spaces are staying the same size or smaller. This has been on the horizon for some time. That's why I leave my cameras running in my car if I leave it for short periods.

I'm not worried about damage but leaving the scene of a collision on a car park is the tip of an iceberg waiting for the Titanic.

Over the top Daily Fail-esque analogy for dramatic effect only.

Also (anyone more informed willing to correct me on this is more than welcome) Motoring offenses or part of the Road Traffic Act, like drink driving or leaving the scene and so on aren't always enforceable on private property. As most car parks are on private property shouldn't it be Criminal Damage instead of a "Hit and Run" motoring offense?

scratchchin

Criminal Damage would have to be based on intent or premeditation but making escape after the fact should bypass that in theory. No malicious or hostile intent but no attempt of reconciliation or admission.

If it's not a motoring offense the motor insurance won't have to pay out. It would have to be Criminal Damage and civil suit post conviction to get the cost of any damages back.

This is a tricky one. What do you guys think?

public access = 'a road' as far as the Road Traffic Act is concerned AFAIK

Don't think I've ever seen this thread before and I'm not about to trawl through hundreds of pages so as for what makes me think 'Knob' can I nominate:

Anyone with a 'vanity' reg, plate, but specifically those that start B16, B18 and B19.

You complete knobs. And you paid out money so everyone knows it biggrin

people driving with fog lights on because it is raining.

people driving at 40 who flash me because i overtake as the limit is 60.

people who leave the main beams on and blind you.

Section 170

It's private property for public use so no liability from the land owner. The onus is on the drivers honesty or lack there of when a collision occurs.

Effectively the same as hitting a vehicle parked at the side of the road.

It's 'rush hour'.
You are waiting at a red light.
You happen to be at the head of the queue.
Perhaps now isn't the time to get engrossed in your smartphone you tt!

Two from today. First the German plated campervan that pulled out of a junction into a NSL, without checking or then using the accelerator. I had brake so hard the hazards came on, almost to a complete stop, for the camper to trundle along at 15mph. Thanks for that.

Later on I'm slowly driving around a car park looking for a space, when a women gets out her car, puts her hood up, head down and walked blindly out into the road, then up the middle of the road without even looking. She was so close to walking directly into the front arch of my car, before walking directly in front. Had I been driving 0.5mph faster she'd have walked into the car/I'd have knocked her over. I was stuck behind her as she walked up to the storefront, all the time she had no idea. I felt like pipping my horn but thought I'd just come across as the dick.

I think i was the knob yesterday, but for the right reasons....

I commute twice a week on my bike (cycle), as a driver i'm fully aware of drivers feelings towards me and that sometimes I hold them up.

So i'm cycling along and a car is behind waiting for a moment to pass, i'm aware of this. When the driver goes along to pass I notice the front of the car in my peripheral vision, at this point I do what I always do, I raise my hand to say thanks, at this point the driver slammed on the anchors! (one assumes he / she thought I was signalling to right...)

I have no idea of the carnage and consternation that must have caused the vehicles that were following....

A couple of plonkers over the past couple of days with zero lights on in the morning in the complete dark (with no excuse about street lights either). An old school Picasso (of the Xsara era) was possibly the worst, I only saw it because it was blocking out the headlights from the car behind otherwise totally invisible.
Didn't you know who that was? biglaugh

I find a thumbup is the best way to go in this situation.

Some people in cars (not the lack of the word "driver") don't understand hand signals at all. A few months ago I was approaching a "T" junction and wanted to turn right, looked over my shoulder, signaled pulled over to the right side of the lane.
Vehicle operator 1/ Undertook me and cut across to the right before veering left, failed to signal, failed to stop and turned left.
Vehicle operator 2/ Sat on my back wheel so I couldn't brake to avoid the first vehicle operator. I signaled again as we were closer to the "T" junction and waved my arm up and down as I slowed. I could see traffic from the left and wanted to stop at the Give Way line. Bizarre concept I know. Blast from the horn so I put my bike down and went to vehicle operator 2's window to see what the problem was.

People who have a minor bump with another vehicle but rather than moving their cars out of the way of other traffic, they just leave them there whilst exchanging insurance details, deliberating etc

people who decide to be road captains, dear old fking tt in the gold focus, I was under the speed limit but as you turned on your rear fogs when I came up behind I thought you were going to do something stupid. The subsequent overtake blocking/brake check/doing 20mph in 30 to try and goad me into an overtake/followed by stopping dead (presumably to try and get me to overtake round the ped. island) on the next bit of NSL were not a surprise.

I hope you die very soon in a very painful way you worthless oxygen stealing moron

The world-class retard in the white Range Evoque who overtook me on Coleridge Road in Cambridge the other night, seemingly because I was adhering to the 20mph limit on what is a residential road with cars parked on both sides. Well done. You got at least 75 metres ahead of me before you had to stop at the next set of traffic lights.
