Seriously speaking, why aren't the rear lights of vehicles lit up too when front DRL's are active?
because they are not lights, they are daytime running lights... if you think they are as good as headlights, you are the problem.

The Polo I mention uses the headlights, no difference when you turn them on except for the dash lights after dark!

But, surely you can't switch full beam on without having headlights on?!
I imagine they were just holding the stalk. Probably moaning about how there's no 'stay on' function.

I think the point is that manufacturers have made it surprisingly easy for drivers to not realise they don't actually have headlights on, especially in built up areas. Instrument cluster illuminates by default on many cars, and enough light is given off by most DRLs to reflect back nearby road signs and to light up the rear of a car close by (i.e. ahead in stopped/very slow moving traffic), giving the illusion that nothing is wrong.

Rear lights coming on would at the very least solve a problem that's recently been created that seems to be incredibly common now. Ironically a safety feature (and nothing more) has almost become the default setting for many drivers in a wide range of conditions. The more you take away from many drivers the less they think about the process of driving as a whole.

it's only an issue on cars with manual headlights... are there that many cars that have DRLs but no auto-lights nowadays?

it's OK to drive around on DRLs (like there is an option to not) with no tail-lights, if it is indeed not dark outside.

And when it's pitch-dark, or foggy?

There probably aren't many cars without auto lights any more, the problem being you can over-ride them!

Or heading into low sun, when the road is nice and shiny?

My 2013 Skoda doesn't have auto headlights but does have DRLs. I see plenty of cars in pretty dark conditions with just DRLs on (and no rear lights), so must be fairly common.

I had a guy on eBay buy a PlayStation off me once. He was in Ireland and my listing specifically said I posted to the UK only.

He kept messaging me asking why I rejected his bids. I told him why and then he started emailing me saying I was racist confused

He reported me to eBay who were quite amused by the whole thing - there's some fking weirdos about

Please show me where to override my auto lights on my Merc S430. Annoying when sat in a car park waiting for someone and if you have the ignition on the lights auto come on so they are on when just trying to get the radio. And no I dont mean the DRL's.

Car park was rammed - and this self important decided to park his shiny white penis mobile across two spaces.

Why is that annoying?

Unless you're sat in car parks wanting to be unseen........

Because people think I might be about to leave?
Because it flattens my battery as engines not running?
Because why the fk do I need the lights on when parked?

Anyone of the several people around here who's personalised number plate started BO55. All knobs. One in particular, who I had a run in with is such a massive know, his knobbishness can be clearly seen from the ISS. They even saw is L320RRS crashed into the hedge on the lightest frost known to mankind.
Good shout. Had one of these 'BO55' plated jobbies cut me up exciting a roundabout in Rickmansworth Thursday.
Am I a knob if BO55 came with the car when I bought it? The plates probably worth more than the car now.

Just turn your switch from auto to sidelights? Or off altogether?
