1.5 Pheasants a year, that's almost an epidemic, sue the farmers/land owners/council/highway agency.
I want to know what happens to the other half pheasant each year.

There's a valid point here. I have the same situation with pheasants but much more problematic are the deer numbers. Where I live deer are a problem and there are many stories about cars badly damaged and accidents caused by deer suddenly appearing. What I see is the movement of these animals being facilitated by removing fences around cover so that the deer can move about more freely.

I'm with the OP, as motorists we should be demanding that famers and landowners be accountable for the animals crossing the road, from or to their land and causing accidents. It would certainly incentives them to reduce their numbers which are in lot of cases kept artificially high.
Don't forget cats, and their owners.

Think you have all missed the point.

Why did the pheasant cross the road?!

This is exactly why you must vote UKIP and send these dirty immigrant birds and deer back to Asia.

Coming over here and running out in front of our foreign cars. fk 'em. Foreign s.

I must have killed over1000 last year. Lazy people like you not even killing 2 are part of the problem.

Why do these dozy pheasants always get in the way?! These pheasants appear from nowhere!
It seems as soon as they see a car, they decide to run for it - right in front of you!

Then again, a pheasants life is only short before the tight sods shoot them...

Pheasants probably do something like make a nest in the wheat (or barley), or run headfirst (in protest!) into the harvester and cars (they have always looked like mad suicidal protesters going headfirst into cars)...

If they could learn to walk in woods and fly over roads they'd be invincible.

Sadly I think they are just a bit thick, compared to other birds.

This AM I came to a virtual stop while one just ran in circles in front of me, while a blackbird just hopped up on to the verge.

I could've sworn the blackbird had a look of contempt on its face, directed at the pheasant.

I do sometimes wonder about how we have got to this, that someone would even start a thread on "containing" wild animals.
I get your point but pheasants are something of a special case, along with grouse. They are incredibly numerous, far more so than would be if the population was controlled naturally and they are considerabley more stupid than any proper wild animal.

I'm not bothered about when i'm driving, but on my bike they are a bloody menace. Not as bad as bloody sheep though, which are equally as stupid, just as numerous but do a lot more damage if you hit one.

Ban them all I say biggrin

I think there's a win-win here. As the animals are demonstrating vastly-improved ninja skills recently, we should corral them all, and offer them roles training our armed forces. Less unemployed deer and pheasants, living on handouts, roaming around damaging hard-working peoples' pride-and-joys and a reduction in the fixed cost of instruction in the armed forces' budget.

What's not to like?
Well said, Sir!

I dream of the day when the borders of this fair land are protected by Badgers. In tanks.

Those ISIS cretins might think they are well 'ard, but I'd bet you any sum you care to mention that they'd run away (screaming like girls) if they were confronted by a Special Forces Stoat.

With an appropriate level of training, I am confident that the Royal Navy could be entirely replaced by Rabbits in canoes by 2025. Think of the savings!

Perhaps Squirrels could be used for intelligence gathering as they are busy little fkers. Red Squirrels mind, not these pesky grey newcomers. I've seen them in trees, watching me, ever watching me…

Grey Squirrels are up to something. Vote UKIP to control them, that's what I say.

They are thick as pig st (Not S2000 drivers) I was on my bike and one launched itself from the hedge and the stupid fecker ended up under my arm, sort of on my leg, so I slowed down and when I came to a stop, let it drop onto the road, it landed on its back, sort of waited a second, it was almost like it was rebooting, it flipped over and flew off making an indignant squawking sound which it carried on doing until I was out of earshot.

Its approach is like one of those people that cuts you up horrendously, nearly causes an accident and then has a go at you for daring to use your horn or react in any way.

Farmers have been getting away with this for years, its about time someone did something. I think the Labour Party are looking to bring something in about it, the Conservatives are obviously opposed to it.

Once that's in place I'd imagine something similar coming in about newts and stoats, the little bds.
