Why are farmers allowed to let phesants live in the road?!
Discussion
Last one I hit was when I was overtaking someone, shot out in front of the car I was passing and there was no chance of avoiding it. Either I could have braked, reducing the speed of impact but having an awkward situation of being stuck on the wrong side of the road or kept my foot in. I did the latter and knocked the fecker back into the path of the overtaken car
Yes, obviously the fault of the farmers... [yorkshire]fookin' farmers[/yorkshire]...

Don't hit them - I hardly potter, I drive an Evora as a daily. Most of the time on a fast A road pheasants won't be there, but if you pay attention you avoid them.
You're confusing luck with skill.I haven't hit one I can remember but that is purely down to some fortunate timing, nothing to do with observation.
We have trees right up to the edge of most of our local A-roads so a pheasant can easily run out under your left tyre before you have time to think - WTF!
But you can't avoid them all. Being feckless creatures, they will take flight from cover straight in front of traffic doing in excess of 60mph. Obviously if you're a slow driver, you're less likely to have a coming together. Deer are much the same. You take the reasonable steps to avoid a collision but ultimately, they're wild animals and will think nothing of crossing the road, whether you're there or not.

In the 15 years I have lived here I haven't hit a single pheasant, partridge, deer, hare, badger, fox, buzzard, owl, blackbird, jay, magpie, crow etc. (these are all on the roads every day)
I'm sure you could, if you would try just alittle bit harder. Honestly, it isn't that difficult. In the surprisingly rural Northern fringe of the Black Country they have at least solved the problem of deer (unfortuantely the article broke the embargo by an hour )

Surely the combined brainpower of PH could come up with an equavalent solution for pheasants?
