For that price is there a better all rounder?
Seems like a beast of a car.
If they make a proper estate version with a boot that you can actually put things in instead of that puny little thing hatches usually call a boot then perhaps it might be a contender to the title.Seems like a beast of a car.

I had my name down for an RS3 as was trying to convince myself it could be used as a family car. Tried an S3 sportback and cancelled my rs3 earlier this week. Might be fine with 4-10 yr olds but with two young kids, buggy, scooters, bikes etc, it just doesn't work. Having read all the reviews in the last few days I'm feeling a little less annoyed about cancelling. If only they would do something similar to the golf r estate with a 5cyl!
[quote=MitchyRS]This will be a £600pm+ PCP so will keep it away from the Golf R 'riff raff' crowd.
This... as well as leasing my car, it looks boring, it has far too many exhausts, a rubbish 4wd system, it is no fun to drive, makes simulated fart noises and now I am officially part of the "riff raff" crowd, as £600pm+ PCP is only stuff of dreams.. Should have tried harder at school, I hang my head in shame...

I'm just glad they got the styling right on this new one. All subjective i know. But an RS model should always have the 2 larger oval exhausts, one at each side. The last one looked EXACTLY like an S3 with some daft coloured wheels and 4-door only guise. I'd still love one mind. That engine and transmission together make it a very nice package.

When you are able to lease something as fast as the Golf R for the price of a 1.2 Renault clio, you will invariably attract the wrong crowd. Leasegate on the Golf R has ruined the image. I feel sorry for the people that actually paid cash for their Golf R's.This... as well as leasing my car, it looks boring, it has far too many exhausts, a rubbish 4wd system, it is no fun to drive, makes simulated fart noises and now I am officially part of the "riff raff" crowd, as £600pm+ PCP is only stuff of dreams.. 2 years in when the leases are up, what are they going to move into when they hand the car back? £200pm will get them back into a clio.
Yes, you should have stuck in at school, maybe then you would have been able to afford an RS3
You have to admit, the exhaust stereo noise is a little gay as are the 4 exhausts. Not a fan on the more premium S3 either.

I think I will look seriously at an RS3 after my lease is up, however the only thing stopping me is the lack of aggressiveness in the styling. I think an RS should look more menacing, with plenty of road presence. Not sure if there are options on the wheels, as they have done this design to death!2 years in when the leases are up, what are they going to move into when they hand the car back? £200pm will get them back into a clio.

I quite like the RS4 and RS6 as they look far more purposeful and it seems Audi are doing deals on these. Maybe need to see an RS3 in the flesh first.

Agree completely. I have seen some nicer images of the RS3 in Nardo with the black optics that looks good but no idea what Audi are playing at with the rotor typed wheels. They've been done to death and should have been ditched. The styling looks a little meh, would liked to have seen 3 doors and some wide arches. Ceramics are coming soon. I think in the right colour combo, the car may look purposeful.I quite like the RS4 and RS6 as they look far more purposeful and it seems Audi are doing deals on these. RS6 just looks mean as hell, what an RS should look like, low and wide...
I'm sure the RS3 will do some pretty crazy numbers when the tuners get hold of them too. I've always preferred the TTRS though and I think that would be the better buy if you can lose the practicality advantage of the RS3.

IME, plenty of the "riff raff" crowd actually have 'loadsamoney' (that's how Kahn design, Masonry etc. survive ), and plenty of those I wouldn't want to associate with are those who take great delight in belittling or sneering at those with less wealth than themselves. These costing 'X' amount per month doesn't mean you won't see knobs driving them. - There are plenty of them with Ferraris, Porsches etc.As a Golf R owner I'll be considering one of these next, looking forwards to a test drive, interesting that the evo reviewer doesn't seem to rate it as much as the Golf but I'll make my own mind up.

The people on here whinging about the perceived image cars have due to the monthly cost just make me laugh. I bought my Golf on a cheap PCP deal, I love it!
Do I care what my neighbours or Joe Public think about my new "cheaper" car, do I bo**ocks, buy a car because you like it, not because you're hoping to make someone green with envy, that's not a recipe for happiness!

I reckon I'd love owning this car, I bet its a lovely place to be. I bet it sounds awesome. I bet everyone will think you're a total 'boss' driving around in one.
But even if I had money to buy a new car, I'd never choose it in the first place. £40k + options? Ugly alloys. 19" wheels!? A horrid elongated side profile like all recent a3's. No thanks. The only point in having the ceramic brake option is for bragging rights because it clearly isn't a track car. It's a big heavy straight line pose mobile.
In a saloon or actual estate form I bet it'd look fantastic but as is, it's not to my taste at all.
I'll stick to chavtastic 3dr hot hatches for now.

New Type-R will be on the road in a few months..... I'd go for the Honda personally. Always had a soft sport for high revving VTEC engines.Though I'd take the Audi in 4 years time when the depreciation has taken the biggest hit.

CTR only revs to 7000, sadly. The promise of a high revving turbo engine was over hyped. I'd wait for the Focus. Subtler than the CTR, but still looks different enough to the bog standard Focus to stand out.Though I'd take the Audi in 4 years time when the depreciation has taken the biggest hit.

It'll be quicker than that.
Expect 3.9/4.0.
Only if Audi aren't lying about horsepower *cough*B7 RS4*cough*. Mind you, VAG do like turning up the boost on press demo cars to get better figures in print.....allegedly.Expect 3.9/4.0.
