Teramax is one example, but maybe not the best. I backed Nvidia which is now part of the Tesla/Mercedes (and a bunch of others) effort. Since buying into them they've done well in the 4 months, but I'm still expecting a few bumps along the way -

It is a little worrying that in advocating these systems you doesn't realise that it is totally about replacing a human - the whole point of autonomous or driverless cars is exactly that - cars without the human making the decision - what exactly do you think they are replacing?! smile
It's interesting that when we want to make people a little less rubbish at driving, we do it by making them drive to a system - by making them behave more like a machine. There are things that human brains are very good at and computers are not. Human brains are not particularly good at driving cars. Autonomous cars are not fundamentally an AI problem, and thinking of them in that way is a distraction.

I think that is partially right - and if we were 100% driverless cars - then I would have no issues, that is similar to driverless trains - it is mixing driverless cars and driver run cars which is worrying! However, though improving driving is often seen as a system, the top end of AD is less system and more toolbox with desired outcomes, which is more brain based...

I'm all for it. But then I also fancy my own personal drone. Maybe the roads themselves could become relics one day.

I went to an IMECHE lecture a couple of weeks back by the bloke that runs MIRA.

All about driverless cars and increasing automation.

Very interesting.

I was left with the following belief.

Whilst there are cars with drivers, it is unlikely that full automation will be safe whilst humans share the decisions. You might automate specific tasks (like parking) or you might develop roads which are for automation only, like new motorways which would be automation only, or you might make city centres electric AND automatic only. (especially in the worlds mega cities)

There will be gradual, replacement of driver decision making. Like is already available.
