I'm assuming most of the peasants that frequent Mumsnet are of the hairy armpit, tie dye lefty type. Look at the first post from Downwiththistypeofthing and then look at their second post apologising for being very, very harsh it's nothing of the the sort. FU@KING WACKO'S

Unless you were breaking the speed limit, you're not responsible, in any way, for the accident.
I'm surprised this kind of thinking (or lack thereof) has come up from two separate people in that thread. There's plenty of 'speed kills' campaigns and I think the concentration of that message has probably diluted other acts of reckless driving.

'Oh, just don't go over the speed limit and you'll be all right, in fact you can have a little sleep if you put a speed limiter on!'

Wow, I mean really? What!?

She sped up because they were pushing in and she doesn't like that? But only to around 45-50 perhaps so she must have been going 30 something in a NSL and by the sounds of it, a long way from the traffic light. All pure idiocy, thankfully quite a few people pointed out that it's quite dangerous to be a twmadt on the road as she's found out.

Don't worry though everybody, shes informed the police that she saw an accident behind her today and left her details. Possibly forgot to mention that she caused it.

Hand in that driving licence and sit down so you can be shouted at and fined please.

I only assume the people in the accident are ok seeing as that wasn't mentioned confused

Some comfort can be found that a few people are giving her grief for speeding up, and then not stopping instantly. So that's nice. But there are also a lot of window lickers that say things like...

Jesus.

The Highway Code said:
R168: Being overtaken. If a driver is trying to overtake you, maintain a steady course and speed, slowing down if necessary to let the vehicle pass. Never obstruct drivers who wish to pass. Speeding up or driving unpredictably while someone is overtaking you is dangerous. Drop back to maintain a two-second gap if someone overtakes and pulls into the gap in front of you.

Some of those opinions on that site are just as worrying.
Has a sort of 'there there dear, don't worry have a nice cup of tea and forget about it'

Very sinister and evil that Mumsnet is, evil, pure evil. evil

Whilst there are a few worrying comments on the mumsnet thread, there are plenty telling the OP that she's a comlpete fkwit who may have caused someone's death.

From the sketchy details provided I'd say it's 50/50 whether her actions actually caused the accident - at best the guy overtaking was cutting it fine, at worst the (mumsnet) OP would have been part of the carnage if she'd maintained or reduced her speed.

The people in the accident were not mentioned because they are all to wrapped up with the thought the OP might be a little upset (feeling guilty because she knows she has done wrong more like) self absorbed s all of them.

If she hadn't increased her speed there would likely have been plenty of room to overtake safely, most people overtake based on what they can see and don't take into account that the person they are overtaking is a homicidal maniac. Having been caught out before by someone "speeding up to stop me pushing in" I now always assume I'm overtaking a moron that will accelerate and plan my escape route in advance.

That's one account she's told. The other is that she sped up as the car approached, slowed when it went to overtake and it hit a car pulling out of a side road before it had passed her.

We don't know which of those versions is nearer the truth.

edit - or as suggested below, and on mumsnet, the OP is a troll.

This is worse than the one I came across on there where a woman had reversed into a teacher's car on the school car park when dropping her children off at school. She wanted reassurance there was no CCTV and she could get away with not admitting to the car owner or the school what she'd done.

It ended with her saying the car owner was a "Snotty cow" who's car repairs she wasn't going to pay for, despite still having no idea who owned the car or how she would have reacted if she'd just told her she'd bumped into it.

Most people on Mumsnet seem pretty normal but, like The Guardian comments section, it gives a scary insight into how some people's minds work, what they think of you and how they justify trying to make your life difficult as you just go about your innocent business.

I imagine in this case the first account was nearer the truth and she changed it after getting an unexpected flaming amidst the poor yous and flowers.

Use Google to find all their threads on mumsnet with "site:mumsnet.com ljwales" and they all seem to be controversial. I smell a troll.

The ignorance of the highway code in the responses is pretty shocking.

I very much hope the police are aware of that forum post.

That almost certainly constitutes a significant statement relating to a very serious offence.

OP:

"Gosh now I'm being flamed for slowing down when someone overtook me?!

You try being in my shoes when some trys to overtake you and then you have to decide to speed up or slow down to avoid a crash! Its not that fking easy!

Right I've had enough, I'm off for a bubble bath and wine."

You can't say whether she's in the wrong or not, there's not enough info, and not clear whether he started the overtake or just coming up fast behind. but all the people who jump on that thread, all saying the same bks.
"Manic over takers" and similar. What the crap is wrong with idiots who think overtaking is illegal or dangerous or pushing in!!!??
And How slow was she going in the first place, ridiculous

That thread didn't go well for him.

Shocking, hopefully it's not genuine. Some of the supportive comments are worrying that anyone would think its ok to do such a thing.
