Hopefully if this is true they take away her licence and never give it back. Oh and maybe lock her up for a while too.

Has anyone here used their OH's login to post up the Highway Code in that thread.

If nothing else a bit of education is better than getting all frothy over here.

imo the person overtaking needs to do so safely. If the target car speeds up by 10mph that shouldn't 'cause' a head-on, its still the overtakers responsibility.

On the A228 north of Leybourne the road becomes a single lane carriageway. Guy overtook dangerously/negligently/miscalculated/whatever. Person being overtaken refused to allow him in when things started to go pear shaped = big crash with oncoming vehicle. Person being overtaken was convicted of DWDCAA and was told irrespective of the overtake they should have taken more care to slow down/brake.

Dont forget the highway code says the person being overtaken should slow up if necessary to allow an overtake to complete.
Otherwise.. well you know the rest

It really does show how much work the Speed Kills brigade have done in making our roads more dangerous. Perhaps the Govt Road Safety Minister should be directed to the thread to show exactly what f***kwits are on the roads.

really? How was it possible for her to accelerate a bit and it fked him up? The speed differential wasn't high enough which is his fault - unless she was driving something powerful which accelerates easily (unlikely). In which case he could have braked and pulled in behind her. Perhaps bravado prevented him from making that decision.

Also if he hit someone head-on dither he hadn't looked far enough head to anticipate potential problem, or it was a side road which is also his poor judgement.

So, uh, do you accelerate to stop people getting past you as well?

no, I make sure knob-heads that would do such a thing aren't in a position to do so to me, if I'm overtaking. So in other words if they did, I wouldn't have a head-on. AKA being a better driver. If you haven't anticipated such a thing, you are a worse driver. HTH.

You realise that the the target car is now forcing the overtaking car to spend far longer on the wrong side of the road. If that causes a head on then its entirely the fault of the car thats doing the forcing. The target car was trying to stop the car from overtaking because they find it annoying.

The OP in the other post should ask themselves if they had not carried out their blocking move, would the accident still have occured. That fact they feel they might have caused it speaks volumes.

Pushing another car into a dangerous situation because it annoys you is not on. According to the OP they were doing around 50, so that puts the overtaking car at 50+, so the closing speed is 100+.

Whilst there are a few worrying comments on the mumsnet thread, there are plenty telling the OP that she's a comlpete fkwit who may have caused someone's death.

From the sketchy details provided I'd say it's 50/50 whether her actions actually caused the accident - at best the guy overtaking was cutting it fine, at worst the (mumsnet) OP would have been part of the carnage if she'd maintained or reduced her speed.
Stop clouding the issue with facts.
