bds! I hope you can get replacements through insurance.

I'm no buildings expert, but I think there might be a slight crack developing in your garage wall too. yikes

Looks like an old Vette I think.

Sorry to hear about your wheels. Scum.

It's a rented lock-up, otherwise I'd be rebuilding it with my new supply of bricks.

The wheels aren't particularly fancy, just 1970s GM 8 slot alloys, not likely to be worth much more than £150-200 or so ea. with tyres. I had been planning on replacing them for a while anyway, glad I hadn't bothered.

It seems that they picked the lock to gain access, & locked it again afterwards. Nice & tidy.

Is this 1985?! People still steal wheels? Looks like it would be a difficult job too, not a lot of space in the lock up. bds.

I'm blaming my sisters boyfriend. He's a scouser.

Same happened to me. I got really lucky with finding another pair for £200 as it was up for sale at the time. So I was only £200 out of pocket luckily and I didn't care about that car.

Just bought a Disco3 - someone's stolen the spare wheel at some point in the last 6 years. I love this country, but if I had to name my top dislikes, very near the top would be the massive preponderance of thieving bds there are here, who will seemingly help themselves to anything unattended at any time.

You aren't looking at things from the point of view of thieving scum (I would imagine) though.

It's still pretty common and oddly, bearing in mind the trouble people have if they lose the key, they can sometimes remove the locking bolts as quickly as if they were just normal ones.

However doing it in a garage is a new one on me - they don't even normally use anything to rest the car on, it's usually just dropped onto the discs.

Of course folks still steal wheels. The cost of a new set of tyres increases the risk. Even if the actual alloy wheels are not that desirable, a nice new set of tyres are!

Even an old Rover which nobody wants can be targetted. having said that, Vitesse Turbo 17" alloys will always find a buyer.

I had a set of 16" Rover 600 alloy wheels with good rubber which fit so he was soon mobile again.

That was a near neighbour's car. Sometime later, one night no less than seventeen cars were vandalised and stuff stolen in our street including one of my son's cars. Window broken and glove box checked for stuff.

For good measure, metal thieves took a drain grill... they are quite heavy worth a couple of quid weighed in! rolleyes

Is it strange that they left it on bricks?

I mean, odd that the sort it dick who steals stuff, also goes equipped with a dozen bricks to leave the car on rather dropping it on its discs.

Just seems very courteous.

Shame OP, hope you sort it.

Scum. Probably related to a local traveller camp in the area, definitely when it comes to drain covers and cable.

Yeah - because traveller "scum" pick locks and then leave it on bricks.

Whoever stole those wheels had a key. Breaking into a garage is far too easy to mess around with picking locks.

OP - find a new place to leave your car.

I did wonder about that and how much harder would it be to jack a car up sufficiently if the opposite corner is sat on it's brake disc, however I didn't come to a conclusion.

As for lock picking, the block was re-roofed last year so the LA would've issued a key to the firm carrying out the work. Seems strange with all the time available to only pinch the wheels. I'll now be seeking a new home for the car.
