I find from looking that a lot of estates don't seem to have a huge amount of space - because they have flat loading areas and a low window line giving a long but quite shallow load bay good for things like bikes, but not offering a huge advantage over the hatch.
True. I have a Focus ST estate and could hardly believe how little space there was in the boot when I was looking to buy it. I have a large plastic storage box with various bits and bats in and on its own takes up roughly 70% of the boot space. A big weekly shop requires the use of the back seats as well! And no I'm that much of a fat fk before anyone says. laugh

On topic, I do like the new Golf R estate, but it's very expensive compared to the Focus ST once you dial in the options.

Only they're fake in a lot of other cars, or a tiny pea shooter hiding inside a much girthier chrome tip. The Golf's do at least function.

And it's really not much work to pop an R down to an exhaust specialist and remove the unwanted appendages, if one desires a more discreet backside.
The ones in the hatch function. But only two on the estate function. So you get one clean tail pipe and one dirty tail pipe either side.

I'd say yes three teenagers would fit across the back unless they are all front row props
Isn't that just because of the noise flap? VAGs with bypass valves have always had one pipe cleaner than the other. If the estate really does have 2 fake pipes, they need to be removed immediately as that's just gash!

I have an R Estate - the exhaust tips are not connected to the exhaust pipes at all. This is common on many new cars now. Shame really.

May sound an odd question, but how have you reached that conclusion? Seems odd that on the hatch all 4 are used but not on the estate.

I imagine he looked under the car. The inner pipes on either side are not connected. Where as on the hatch they are all connected.

Also they will have different exhausts because of the different body styles.

Not many I suspect! Hard to justify ownership when you can get an Estate R for as low as £169pm on personal hire @ 10K pa!

Fair enough, I thought it may have just been soot deposits, which on most hatches are only on 2 pipes due to the software glitch of race mode.

I never saw them as low as that - I thought I'd done well at £208 for 12k!

You have.

Brother in law just got his R Estate. It's fabulous. Think he's leasing about £300 with some options.

They'd only be that cheap with a massive upfront payment. Normally looking at £1,500ish up front then £210+ per month for 10k miles per annum.

It was £2,000+VAT plus 23 x £159+VAT.

I ordered one.

The offer appears to have finished:

That was it. Was trying to find the details but ran into the same problem of it being finished.

Happens every time. Someone shows me a great deal and I go to check it out, only to find it's ended!

There were no options possible, and only Pure White was available for £159+VAT. The only other colours were Lapiz Blue (+ £30pm) or Deep Black (+ £25pm). I didn't fancy paying an extra £30pm for paint, so went for the white!

Matt

How does this compare in terms of performance to your vrs? Does the reduced weight in the skoda go any way to compensate to the power deficit? smile

You can see daylight between the exhaust tips and the actual exhaust pipes. They are not connected.
