Maybe it's good to know that my clutch has 50.000km (about 30.000 miles) on it now... I am not sure what the average clutch life time is, but I guess that's not near replacement...?

Really depends on how it has been driven, if it feels OK don't worry about it.

I remember waiting to launch a boat once and there was a 2.0 mpi Discovery pulling a Sea Ray out. Letting the clutch slip like hell trying not to stall there was that smell and then the clutch went. Then the sinking feeling that we would have to wait a while for it to be towed out.

Great anecdote, I know. But you never forget burnt clutch smell.
