Hi g8ape, I was in Australia 3 weeks ago and saw one in the flesh. It was absolutely ace.
Funny thing was, I had been at home a couple of weeks earlier and told my Wife I was going to buy a pickup.
She kind of said "what ever" but after trying out a couple, I dropped the idea and bought a TVR Cerbera wink
Then I got to Aus and discovered one of these monster.

My colleague was driving me round in his, 6,3ltr Holden smile
Its a real shame GM are closing them down frown
Firewall here wont let me post pics frown
i didn't know they were closing down, big shame.
How are you finding the Cerebra? I drove one at a dealers a few years ago and the roof above the drivers side window was uncomfortably close to my head, my son and i had a fit of the giggles when he tried to fit in the back seat hehe Awesome car though, I read up on lots of differing opinions about weak cranks no definitive answer, but like an E46 M3 if you believed everything you read you'd never buy one.

I got close to buying one to experiment wether it was worth starting a business specialising in the faults rectification, after various research I didn't bother. Theres one near me with a great sounding aftermarket exhaust!

Impressed even so, thanks they are out there. I'm inclined to wait for something that's been worked on like the right Monaro you mentioned or similar, something someone else has shovelled a ton of cash into rather than me doing it...
As I think I'm now looking for at least 2 cars, what would you go for that's similar to an SRT8? I'm thinking perhaps a sensible ish 4x4 even diesel? Gonna check the price of those huge diesel Touregs

4x4 - the problem is if you want one that goes and corners you end up with a Forester !

For a proper 4x4 I'd have a 4.7 Grand Cherokee HO with LPG - nothing comes close for the price (£2-4k) for a bit more money and credibility a 4.7 V8 Land Cruiser, if I was feeling brave a Supercharged Range Rover.

A mate used to give courses on how to drive the V10 Toureg - great fun but don't buy them with your own money - albeit must be a safer proposition than a Range Rover.

interesting how the Forester keeps cropping up! I ran a Land Cruiser D4d for 5 years when I was ferrying my son to school it was a massive eye opener for a petrol head as they are 'So Good' super reliable, moved house with it, towed others out of ditches, transported engines, canoes, beds, fridges, exhausts, kitchen hardtops and 2 large dogs etc... If you had to choose one vehicle for the rest of your life a Land Cruiser would be it for me, although a Dodge Viper with roof bars & tow bar might come in a close 2nd biggrin

Thanks for the heads up on the Toureg, I couldn't find anything that hadn't been to the moon for an acceptable price.

A good friend has a RR sport 07 plate, Ive fixed the fuel flap release and a few electrical things for him, it had a big nervous breakdown 3 weeks ago and has started to cost him dearly, I did warn him from what I read...

Its interesting this has come up twice, it does look great and papercups thread makes great reading, If I were selling it I'd be after a high price also especially as Ive shovelled loads of cash into projects in the past, but even knowing this I wouldn't pay what he's asking! Scary when you realise your just as hypocritical as everyone else...

Its interesting how a Jeep Cherokee SRT8 appeals so much, shame they don't have switchable 2 to 4 wheel drive it would be an awesome sideways machine; that said they might be anyway.

For years and years now Ive been trying to roll all my car needs into one, the danger is its a 'jack of all trades' I suppose it'll burn fuel exceptionally well...

Would someone please talk me out of one!!!

If you just want an average looking factory built car which doesn't look special but packs a punch try a v8 5 series. Mine is an auto but there are manuals if you really want that. You can get a 545i for 5000 maybe. I went for the 550i which are quite rare.

Mine has just had a Bilstein B8 suspension kit and go flat tyres obviously.

There are a few v8 Touring owners on here and we have our own thread too. One just sold his 550i manual touring for about 9000.

For a factory built car with a 5 litre v8, rwd (open diff unfortunately) and modern gizmos they sound cheap if you ask me.

Thanks! Ive owned an E39 540 touring an E36 328i sport touring an E46 330d sport touring also that was good without the right sound, also had a E90 335d that was extremely good as a company car. All autos which were very good to be fair.

550i Touring I especially like the idea of! Off to research now...

Thats a brilliant suggestion especially as I often sit 'Twiggy' style facing backwards anyway. it took years to train my Cocker Spaniel to do the pedals for me, but its been so worth it for when I'm reading the paper and can rest it on the back seat...

He's "sold" it on Ebay at least 3x

The problem is that it still needs finishing and the price doesn't reflect that.

There are lots of good, fast cars around £5k so people spending £15k don't want a project, it's neither a full on race car nor a full on road car.

I bought a Range Rover Vouge 2004 V8 4.4 yesterday 45k miles and under £10k. I didn't realise how much I needed a retracting steering column and heated steering wheel biggrin

As people kindly suggested so many RWD options I began to realise I was trying to roll too many criteria into one vehicle. Now Ive got the 'practical' family load lugger sorted I can concentrate on a better RWD.

Tuscan with V8 possibly LS or BMW M5...?

I think a saloon does not really slot in with the range. The range is very practical. You need something very unpractical now like an elise.
