RE: Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe spied
Tuesday 21st April 2015
Such is the excitement around packing a V8 into a small(ish) saloon and estate that the launch of the Mercedes-AMG C63 coupe is arguably less exciting than the four-door and wagon. Funny how these things work. Still, this is PH and pictures of a 500hp AMG coupe are guaranteed to brighten a Tuesday morning.
Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe spied
The M4, RC F and RS5 group test is already being plotted...
Captured at the Nurburgring (where else?), this is the first look at the two-door AMG C63. What can be viewed beneath the disguise at present is much as you would expect: more aggressive bumpers, quad exhausts and a bit more muscle round the haunches. There are, however, some very strange wheels on the back of this test car. The fronts are the 19-inch rims from the AMG S but the rears are entirely unfamiliar. Mercedes geeks, your knowledge will be valuable now! Is this a secret engineer's drift spec? Wide and grippy on the front, small and slippy behind. Probably not, but it's a nice idea.
Both 'regular' C63 and S powertrains will surely be carried over directly from the saloon and estate, although the coupe will probably have a little less weight to haul around. Should be a good basis for a Black Series too...
Mercedes hasn't yet officially confirmed the C63 coupe so it's a little way from production yet, next year at the earliest. But at least it won't arrive three years after the saloon as in the last generation! More details as they're available.

The previous C class was a hansom, sharp looking car, whether it was a saloon, coupe or estate.
The new estate is bearable, a bit too much like an A4 maybe, but the saloon... it looks like the rear has been parked too close to a fire and drooped, much like a late '90s Hyundai. I love the interior though, worlds away from its competition.
I'd like to see the Coupe address the above issue, but I don't think the current Mercedes design language, that works for the bigger S Class and CLS, translates so well into its smaller models.

As said above, estate is not too bad (and what I'm planning as my next car in 2 years once I can afford a second hand one). Saloon looks awful. Melted is best description I've read. Hope the coupe looks better. Outgoing models look much nicer. Especially the oval pipes, trapezoid (or whatever they are) look a little fake.
