Apologies please Mr Smart Venom, I mean you no ill respect, but just as in Japan some of the Train and Subway cars can only be occupied by woman (it is the rules) so is some cars only for the woman, we have a proverb for this in Japan "Women's' toilet and ones circle of friends are best kept small" so please forgive me for any ignorance.
To be fair isn't this a product of Japanese men having the smallest penises when averaged between nations?

Still you work hard, God bless you. biggrin

I just kicked off the mid life crisis with a Clio 182 FF as its the closest thing to an original Cooper S that I could find. It is a complete riot, even if her indoors says I look like I have borrowed my daughters car,

bought a 172 for pocket money as a stop gap based on magazine reviews and it was fantastic fun for the money and very practical. when it died a couple of years later i bought a 172 cup. the cup is now stripped and relegated to a cheap track day project but insane fun. I would ave loved to stretch to the 182 trophy at the time but didn't.
they are very impressive cars for a french girls car.

  1. 185 was the best car I've ever owned. Never smiled more or had more fun in a car. Just loved the fact you could hit any corner at basically any speed and get round it. Incredible traction and an incredible amount of adjustability for a front wheel drive car. When I had it I wished it had a bit more power, ever since I've realised that it was just a perfect set up. You could just about enjoy most of the car, most of the time.
Sure it struggled a bit with overtaking due to a lack of torque, but for B road blasts it was just perfect.

What did you pay for it? Or did I miss that bit?

Wouldn't normally ask that question but you're PH staff and I'd like to know how the market is doing for these great little cars.
Probably around £5-6k knowing Trophy's.

It'll probably upset a lot of people in the know that I got it for an absolute bargain at £4,250 with 74K on the clock. Similar spec/condition cars are easily £5,500 so I'm wondering if I'll find out soon why it was so cheap!

It hasn't had the Sachs rebuilt or the dephaser changed but I factored that in to the buying process. Otherwise it's in great condition and I'm feeling rather smug (...touching wood)!

haha brilliant although as much as I love the clios (had 172cup and trophy), you do look bent behind the wheel.

I just brought a 182 CUP as a run around. So far really impressed, goes really well fun handling and getting 37MPG. Even toying doing my next track day in it instead of the Caterham. I read somewhere its the nearest thing to a modern 205GTi, and i really liked my previous 205 but finding a good one as a daily is getting hard.
I'd like to have a go in a Trophy so see how good it can be with some factory expensive upgrades

I'm probably going to book on to the BookaTrack day at Brands on the 1st of June and take my Caterham and the Trophy. Do the same, and I'll happily take you out in the Trophy!

I had a Mk5 GTI a while after my 182. It was very effective but I don't miss it at all, no emotional connection whatsoever. I do miss my 182 though frown, each to their own. That said I wouldn't want to drive it 800 miles a week, I don't think my ears or my left leg could take it.
Did you find that everyone would try and race you in your 182 ?

It would be a daily occurrence for me, white vans, reps in diesels etc always up my chuff or desperate to overtake.

Became very tiresome.

Same journey in the ED30 and I was totally ignored.
A bit yes, more than any other car I've owned. They never seemed to expect the little Clio to take off the way it did though driving.

That's what the gearbox is for! With a nice rev-matched change down to 2nd or 3rd mine was great at overtaking people.

Always wanted a Clio 182 but I've never been able to get over the obvious fact that it looks like a little girls car and i'm too self-conscious about these things.
That's quite sad really.

@Happyjap I think you need to reconsider what a girls car is or what defines one and do that first without visiting this page because your car knowledge is awful.
You're consistently creepy too. I sense you're just a troll. No offence but these Clio Sports are better than what you'll get to drive judging by your small talk BS. Unwelcome here.

I still adore the 172/182. I personally had the 182 (full fat with both cup packs) and missed out on the opportunity of trying a 182 Trophy but can only assume that it is even better than the 182 I had which, frankly, was brilliant.

Personally I loved how light it felt and how eager it was in any gear thanks to the torquey engine. In fact, I was left disappointed when I subsequently tried a 197 Cup and then had a 200 (non-turbo) since these cars (in my view) were just too much like hard work. The 182, however, felt faster to me in most situations and simply begged to be driven quickly everywhere. It was even economical when you wanted it to be as I managed to eek out 38mpg on a trip from Bucks to Durham plus in my ownership (2 years) nothing ever went wrong.

My 182 was eventually replaced with a Megane R26 which I enjoyed but never really bonded with like the 182. It was faster, handled better but just wasn't as much "fun". I have also subsequently had a 200 (with cup pack) and a 200 turbo and neither car was able to hit the spot like the old 182 which is why I have now gone a bought a Fiesta ST as this is the nearest "new" car I could find which has almost all of the 182's traits and reintroduces some of the "fun" missing from the other cars.

No doubt other peoples opinions will differ but I would have another 182 again in a heartbeat were it not for the fact that I now do nearly 20k a year which is why the newer Fiesta is a better fit.

Just sold our 172 cup.
Fantastic car to drive, terrible car to own.

Parts are mercifully cheap, which is just as well as they seem to need a lot of them. I bought a well cared for one with all the right things done, and it was the least reliable car I've ever owned. When it worked, and on the right road, it had echoes of our old DC2. However, the DC2 never broke, ever. The Clio did constantly.

I'm glad I owned one, I'd just prefer to have borrowed one that I could have given back. It may not have been as bad as it feels, but it was one of those cars that once it passes the tipping point, every small niggle just gets on your nawks so much because you've just had enough of constant warning lights, funny noises, electrical failures, mechanical maladies and the like.
I also grew tired of the attention it attracted from people trying it on the whole time. I don't want to race you, I just want to have some fun on a back road.
