Glad to be of help.

Wait until you get the link for that prize draw... wink
If you have just ordered a new MX5 at list price, entry to the Mazda hospitality tent & a ride up the hill on the Thursday at Goodwood should be a given, not wait until your name might be pulled out of a prize draw!

I got a technical specification sheet when I visited my dealer this morning.

Kerb weight (kg) incl driver (75kg)
1.5 - 1,090
2.0 - 1,122

Pretty good considering the original was 940 (according to Wikipedia so must be true), and the amount of extra stuff that comes with the new ones.

That'll be crumple zones, air bags, (does it have?) ABS/TCS, and other safety malarky. Stuff has mass.

Damn stuff!

But yes, I'm pretty pleased about that - especially that it's only 32kg difference for the 2.0.

I'd like to hear more about why the engineers recommend the 1.5 so much.

God it's still so ugly, like the Zenos with the depressing headlights. Why oh why?

Here's to hoping that the Fiat one based on this car turns out a little happier.
+1
I just can't get excited about it.
Maybe it'll grow on me once seen in the flesh.....?
Still looking at Wifey's MK3 and thinking an LS2 would go nicely in there.....

Where are you all finding the configurator? Can't find it on Mazda.co.uk

Anyone else finding this very buggy? Not that I'm actually buying one, but I can't get past the bit where you choose a colour...

Yes, I noticed on Monday it had a lot of bugs all of a sudden. It was working fine before the weekend.

Taken from mazda.co.uk FAQ's

We have achieved a weight reduction of over 100kg compared to the current model. Including driver (75kg), the 1.5 SKYACTIV-G weighs 975kg*, whilst the 2.0 SKYACTIV-G weighs 1,000kg*.

*Subject to final EU homologation.

If this is correct then the base 1.5 only weighs 24kg more than the Lotus Elise (876kg without driver)

I first read that as meaning they'd saved 75kg by taking out the driver.

IIRC the lightest MK1 1.6 models weighed 940kg (no PAS nor E windows) but the later 1.8 weighed approx 100kg more as it had:

Larger brakes, diff, body braces, PAS, EW (I'm unsure if AC was included in that weight)

I don't think their weight included the driver so the current weights for a larger car meeting current regs is remarkable.

Well, today is the end of the press embargo and, suffice to say, the Americans absolutely love the thing!

They get the 2 litre, and several reports seem to average out at a surprisingly quick 0-60 time of 6 seconds. Some slightly faster, and some slightly slower.

Plus all the usual expected comments about the chassis.

Sounds great!
