So, who is cancelling their 1.5 pre-order and waiting for the 2.0?

They get the 2 litre, and several reports seem to average out at a surprisingly quick 0-60 time of 6 seconds. Some slightly faster, and some slightly slower.
The Americans always seem to get better acceleration results than the European magazines - I wonder how their testing protocol differs?

(For example, C&D got the RX-8 to 60 in 6.3 seconds, compared to AutoCar's 7.1 seconds. The US cars were nominally a bit more powerful, but in reality, probably not)

Not enough to account for that much difference, but 2 mph lower helps.

Autocars testing is carried out 2 up with a full tank of fuel I believe. The US tests might be 1 up and running on fumes.

Only had a brief scan, but a few forum posts mention the 0-60's are rolling starts, ie 5mph to 60mph. Suppose thats ok as long as its apples for apples along with other cars they test.
I'll wait for the official EVO review!

Could well be it. Their protocol also seems to favour cars with more low rev torque, perhaps the yanks are a bit more brutal.

It's not 0-60 then, it's 5-60 confused

Latest information from Mazda is that both the first of the 1.5 and the 2.0 which have been pre-ordered for customers are going to be arriving at the same time, which currently is between the 15th of September and the 15th of October.

All dates subject to change!!smilesmilesmile

I was told I could change my spec up to (I think) 6 weeks before delivery was due.

Fortunately I ordered the 2.0. smile

Interestingly the SkyActiv engines are Atkinson cycle engine rather than the conventional Otto.

Obviously done for economy/CO2 reasons. I wonder how this may affect tuning options?

A simulated Atkinson cycle I believe, as a true Atkinson cycle involves a variable displacement; the Prius (among many others) uses a faux-Atkinson cycle.

If you want a 2.0 (especially a Sport.) definitely before the end of the year, you need to get down to your local Mazda dealer sharpish. Quite a few 1.5 from the initial batch left but hardly any 2.0s.

No glovebox or door storage is a silly omission, especially in a convertible.

Can see this being my next car.
It does have two small closable storage areas behind the seats. Admittedly not brilliant access but useful for putting stuff in you don't use much.

Sat in one at a Goodwood FOS, disappointingly at 6' I couldn't get comfy; not enough leg room, knees up around the steering wheel.

Doesn't seem to have been mentioned much (or at all) in the reviews that I have read but the front section of the cloth roof is actually an aluminium plate wrapped in cloth. its only the back part of the roof round the window is true cloth. So, in a way, its kind of already a hard top. smile

And the 2.0 Sport Nav model is now pretty much sold out until mid-November..
