Oh it's been all of 5 minutes since we had one of these threads smile

But it's always interesting to see what ideas get thrown up.

I'm minded to send my Y plate 2.2 Omega off to the NCP in the sky over the next month or so. MOT due end of May and it's got a few problems...

- Needs a new MAF sensor
- Autobox failure - will only shift on the manual over ride
- Plumes of fragrant smoke from front o/s brakes on heavy braking (but braking effort unaffected & pulls up straight - interesting one! Fluid levels remain ok.)
- Needs a new heater bypass valve (after the last one dumped all the coolant on me down in Peterborough, T'd it together and works but a/c not as cold as I'd like)
- Needs a handbrake readjustment
- Oil leak that means it marks its territory like an elderly & slightly incontinent spaniel

Seems a bit of a shame as it's got a recent cambelt, 4 newish typres, recent exhaust & only 79k on the clock. But it's been cheap motoring and perhaps more to the point, it's not much of a drivers car. No grin factor although it is RWD. Nice enough but bland. Probably going to cost more than it's worth to fettle all the niggles. And I'm a PHer, so a new toy always excites... smile

So what to go for?

What say ye, great pundits of PH? It'll be a month or so till it goes so don't feel obliged to find something in the classifieds, just looking for ideas.

Funds are tight so it's gotta be another sub <£1k barge. I don't do huge miles these days so fuel isn't a major issue although that said, I didn't mind 20mpg from my T5, but the same from a pedestrain Omega is frustrating!

It must be able to tow and have some credibility for turning up at clients. Ok, I'm not going to get anything really PH for that sort of money but a half decent amount of poke would be nice.

Browsing eBay turns up some interesting S80 or Jag S-type shaped barges for little money. The idea of a 3 litre V6 is of course appealing but reliability is always a question on s-types of this era - although any car at this stage in its life is going to have more problems of course. This I know. It's part & parcel of bangernomics smile

So what other ideas does the collective have?

Thanks - Dunc

Hadn't thought of Lexus, will take a closer look smile I wonder if the one from CIA Autos comes with a free waterboard?

The rust fairy's well & truly visited that Merc! But reckon it'd be an interesting project.

The 75 V6 might be worth a punt, what's the spares availability like on those these days I wonder?
