Merge in turn collision, who's at fault?

They are probably less willing to accommodate you if you've just shoot past right to the final merge point and expecting them to just let you in.
Match their speed alongside the gap in front of them and indicate without moving across and they are much more likely to drop back to let you in.
That's exactly what I do, I don't fly up like an idiot I just pootle up barley going faster than the other traffic, when I'm getting close to the merge, I pick a gap and match my speed and then when it starts to merge, I start moving across but I've had several cars who then floor it up my inside, meaning they're sat next to me on the inside leaving me no where to go. Match their speed alongside the gap in front of them and indicate without moving across and they are much more likely to drop back to let you in.
And to the stupid point, yes I do try and hold my ground but if it starts to get too close, I just back off even though I'm slightly ahead of the other vehicle being a tosser.

I don't think you're actually meant to use the area past the end of the lane markings, it's only there as a safety buffer. The outside lane ends at the point the line between the lanes end so the driver in the outside lane should have already merged before that point.
There was a whole pair of threads including a poll about merging too soon I didn't think the end of lanes was usually a "merge in turn" anyway. I thought it was usually just marked as "your lane is about to close, get out of it"?

I was in a similar situation on Friday, but I didn't risk a collision. We were in slow moving traffic. The other car was determined not to let me in, even though I was ahead of him! He nearly went into the back of the car in front of him, just to "block" me, proving his tttish credentials . Fat boy in the silver Subaru wagon/legacy thing... go fk yourself!
