These cars are definitely an itch I'm going to have to scratch. What's the room in the back like for a 7/8 year old and the mother-in-law on occasion? I'm not tall so tend to have the drivers seat quite far forward anyway. Also, is the boot any good?
We use mine as a family car quite often. My 5'5" tall 11 year old lad is more than comfortable in the back, either behind the driver or passenger seat. They are a little tight to get into, but once he's in, there is heaps of space for him.

Damn this thread it's got me on Autotrader...

645s from £6k
650s from £8k
M6s from £15k

Merc CLS 500s and 55AMGs are of a similar age and price....how do they compare to the 6?

What other modern V8s are our there for similar money?

The cheapest 6 series 2004/05 can be picked up from as little as £5'500 and M6's are more nearer the £12'500 mark

An M6 will be utterly ruinous though, won't it?

A 6 series for £5.5k will be a baggy dog that's been to the moon and back though!

Would you buy an M6 with 100,000+ miles, pathy history, dog condition and no warranty?

For the right money, yes.

100,000+ wouldn't necessarily bother me, but if it had a patchy history, wasn't in the best of nick and had no transferrable warranty, you'd have to bloody pay me :P

I've always assumed that the 6 series fell between the practical family car that everyone wants and the svelte desirable sports car or coupé, because of its lack of practicality compared to a 5 series but its lack of badge, looks or charisma compared to an Aston or Porsche; thus the depreciation.

Loved my old 650. 3 years, 30k miles and the only issues other than 17mpg were a sub for the logic7 (on warranty) and the headlights (£900 each! But on warranty!)

Big bills if they go wrong, but they don't really go wrong.

I'd still have it if it wasn't for the pesky children.

For me it would depend if at the end of my ownership I was going to be a) the last owner, b) dead or c) wanting some residuals back for the next car. If the former two options, I'd jump at the chance to get a bargain, but if the latter two options, I'd be very cautious because 100k mile+ cars are extremely difficult to sell on.

Car values aren't really about the car, they're about what the market thinks. It's a bizarre but true fact that if you took two identical new cars and thrashed one around London on short journeys for three years and took the other and sat it on the motorway for three years and then tried to sell them with 20k miles and 80k miles respectively, the 20k mile car would be worth a lot more, despite it's inevitably inferior mechanical condition. If that latter car had done 101k miles, it probably wouldn't sell for months, whereas the 20k mile one would be gone in a few weeks at the right price.

The rear seats dont fold. No roof rack option either. All available on the 5 series however.

Or if you want a sports car, Porsche do a lightweight roof attachment for skis and probably snowboards too.
