Bit of a spanner
Discussion
We took the daughter and dog for a wander around a lake 20 miles away yesterday. Daughter took her bike.
1/2 way down the motorway (about 10 miles from home) I realised I had left the bike rack spanner on the ledge behind the tailgate. Thinking it unlikely to be still there knowing the speed bumps, twists and turns before the motorway I thought I had better stop and check.
Lo and behold not moved an inch.
Very impressed now with L322 air suspension (and my own masterly smooth driving obviously ).
Any similar surprises folks?

Years ago on the way home from something in our series III Landrover we got flashed at by several oncoming cars.
When we got home we discovered my mothers handbag sitting on the front bumper in the recess in front of the radiator. Luckily the number plate sat slightly higher than than the bumper which was enough to stop it falling off the front.

once had a nokia 6310 fall out of my pocket whilst on my bike, early fireblade
rode around for a bit looking for it at the side of the road, gave up eventually
parked it in the street outside my flat, next morning came out and it was still sitting balanced between the fairing and the frame where it had fallen out of my jacket pocket as I 'tucked in' on the motorway
still switched on too, with a load of missed calls where it had been ringing half the night
just at the red bit of the fairing in this pic

Forgot another one. On the bike, nipped past a BMW on the approach to a roundabout and he flashed his lights at me. I assumed he was being a dhead about me daring to overtake him until he got along side me at the next set of traffic lights and shouted that my keys were in the lock of my topbox
After checking the water level in a clapped out MkIV Civic at a service station after getting some petrol outside Norwich, we drove to central London to go clubbing.
Parked up and the driver was frantically trying to find his wallet. As a last resort, we went through when he last had it - it was in his hand as he was checking the water prior to paying for the petrol.
We popped the bonnet and there it was, sat on the slam panel. Luckily the bonnet had clamped it into position.

<sigh>
I've rode for many many miles, many times in various countries with the keys in the top box.
However, the best one was bowling down the A13, when I suddenly couldn't recall having put my jeans in the topbox; I'd left just work and changed.
The BMW GS has a beak area on the front, which is handy for resting all sorts of stuff on, turns out a pair of jeans will sit happily there for a good 15-ish miles at 'progress speeds'.

Years ago, a friend and I did a cross Europe rally in a Volvo 850 T5. This was early sat nav days and we had a laptop connected to some form of serial based GPS receiver. On our return leg my mate opened the laptop to double check our route and found the receiver wasn't connected. We stopped the car and found it sitting on the roof of the car, this was about ten miles after we'd set off through the alps.
Thought I'd lost my treasured Leatherman multi tool a while back. IIRC correctly it is the Charge Ti - not a cheap model and I've had it for about 12 years and it's been used a lot so there is a degree of sentimental attachment.
About 5 years ago I thought it was gone for good. I could remember using it when tinkering with my old XR4x4 and then nothing. I had taken the car for an MOT at a garage I no longer use as they developed a bit of a reputation for being 'dodgy' so I assumed that a light fingered mechanic had nicked it.
I was a bit pissed off and resigned myself to the fact that I'd have to splash out for a new one… and then I saw it. Wedged between the fuse box and bulkhead of my Sierra. God knows how it had got there (was in the black leather case so it was hard to see).
Quick clean up, drop of oil on the mechanism/s and all was well after the 3 months holiday in an engine bay.

not quite the same, but i followed a car once where the driver had left his glasses on the roof.
repeated honking, flashing of lights and waving resulted in him and his passenger completely ignoring us as turning left at the next junction. we turned right and never knew if they stayed in place.
we were in the land rover so hard to miss us right behind him.

I left a set of triple 14s ladders on my van un clamped and drove off i got a fair distance before i noticed them bouncing around, i stopped very gingerly and re clamped them, a work mate lost his roof ladder off the top of his vw transporter van on the m25 one night, he heard a clatter and then a bang as they departed company with the roof rack,he too had forgotten to clamp them up. The ladder skipped along the road and landed in the central reservation off of the live lane so he just left it. Quite naughty but he thought of the st that he would have been in if he reported it.
