I would be serious tempted.

£20000 for a Renault Clio Sport
£27000 for a golf GTI

A sub £10k hot hatch would be awesome bring performance to a lot of people that otherwise couldn't afford it.

Sure, some people will think it's awesome, but the majority of hot hatch buyers will balk at the Dacia badge and spend £10k on a used Corsa VXR or similar.

Dacia will suffer from badge snobbery for a few years yet, similar to the sort of thing that Skoda suffered for years, but with little niche things like this they may well win around alot of people, watch for the Duster pick-up soon.

The old Twingo is due to be rebadged and re-released over here in 2016 with the Dacia badge on the road sub £5k for a base model and possibly the Twingo RS will appear with a new name wink

The Sandero Sport is very likely to run a similar set up as and when it arrives.

Which market is that? I hadn't heard of that one, as the old Twingo is a more expensive car to build than the Sandero so I'd be surprised if that happened.

Not when production is shifted to Romania and also it when spec and price are reduced

Yes it is - the Twingo was made in Slovakia previously and the key thing with the Dacia range is that they're engineered to be cheap to build from the start, not just a normal car with the cost reduced by taking bits out and building it somewhere cheap.

Take all the 'extras' out and build it in the same factory a Twingo will still cost a lot more to make than a Sandero.

If you drew a venn diagram of Dacia customers and hot hatch/racing enthusiasts the intersection in the middle would be tiny though. There are a lot of other demographic groups more worthy of their marketing spend sadly.
The thing is, hot hatch/racing enthusiasts are not tied to the brand, they're tied to the model. I myself, know more then few guys from my local RenaultSport forum
who didn't even think about the new Clio RS EDC as a upgrade to their faithful 200 N/As, they're waiting on the new Civic Type R and waging their option with a Golf R or even possibly WRC Polo ( if any remained unsold that is). The fact of the matter is, you don't need existing Dacia customers in order to sell a Sandero RS, you need to appeal to those who, until now, wouldn't even consider a Dacia .
