Dont you lot remember the dumbos in maths who couldn't work out averages?

They are the ones who speed through specs cameras.

They never learned what average actually means.

To some people it's a bit like the offside rule.
Or it's the nerds trying to argue with their wife over mode, mean and median. wink

Most of them are probably idiots, but the smart ones have those James Bond triple license plate flippy things, and know where the cameras are. haha

They are set up and all ready to go on the North Circular in London between Hanger Lane and Bounds Green. All that's needed is for Boris to throw the switch.

I may be wrong. But, I've a feeling that average speed cameras are already being used on the A13 as a traffic calming measure.
The a13 ones definitely working!

I find this, not unusual to be doing an indicated 75mph commuting to work up the A9 (Dual carriageway) and get passed by a van doing 80+.

Are we the fools? confused
Eh?

A9 Dual Carriageway sections are not covered by the Average Speed Cams so they can go as fast as they like!
The A9 between Dunblane and Perth have average speed cameras. Pretty sure they go north of Perth too towards inverness. Great waste of tax payers cash.

Long time since I drove the Dunblane/Perth road, but the Average Speed Cameras from Perth to Inverness are only on the single-carriageway sections, not the DC's.

I drove south from Perth about an hour ago.

So all that fuss and those yellow cameras over the roads was just a ruse. I'll leave ten minutes later for work tomorrow then and just make up the time.

If only I had known months ago!

Errr wait WHAT!?!?!? Ive been using that stretch of the A9 a couple of times a week for the last month or 2. What about the big yellow cameras? And the signs every entrance that say "Average Speed Cameras in Enforcement" (or something like that) and the fact that EVERYONE is sitting at 65-70 with there eyes glued to there speedos. I need to take a real close look the next time I drive to Perth.

They're for recording lap times, faster your time the more points you get, it's great!

Don't go racing down SOUTH from Perth until you check the camera coverage, but NORTH of Perth they are not covering the dual carriageways! wobble

EDIT: They do cover the DC between Perth and Dunblane: http://www.safetayside.co.uk/road-safety-/a9-road-...

I live in a high specs area (A13,A127,M25) and have a few mates who just ignore them all, regularly 30mph+ over the limit through them. None of them have a ticket yet, fairly certain that we are the fools but I need my license for work so stick fairly close to the number in the circle.
I often wonder about this and how they get way with it. Won't be me though. In January I was on the M1 southbound between junctions 25 and 24 having stuck to a GPS set 50mph all the way for the nonsense that is junctions 30 to 28.

Approaching J25 there were flashing 50 mph signs. I slowed to c.50, which most didn't. Signs then claimed "incident ahead". No sign of anything plus good long distance visibility and after a few minutes people started to increase speed, so I did, briefly accelerating to get out of the way of the proverbial white van man as i overtook a lorry. Soon the signs cleared and there had never been any sight of any incident.

Result, notice to prosecute for doing 61 mph, must have been when I shifted to get out if every of WVM. Saturday now to be wrecked by the cash for scamera, sorry, Speed Awareness course that swapped points for £97. Bartstards.

Ah they are active. Thats a real shame the Dunblane to Perth A9 is such a nice sweeping dual carriageway you can cruise at 80-90. the cameras have really hit driving standards on that road with folks sitting staring at there speedos and gps's. Wonder when we are going to get rid of the archaic 70 limit... its pribably going to get lower before it gets higher the way things are currently going.

Interesting some folks do get prosecuted then. I've always gone for +10% and never had any bother. I reckon that's got to be a safe strategy, even on a gps speedo. Can't wait for these to be rolled out across the country, honest.

I tend to stick to 55mph on my speedo which is close to real 50. There is no considerable gain in going 60 or 70. I don't need points in my licence and the time saved isnt worth it.

It does make me giggle people that brake on the average spree cameras.... Obviously maths wasn't their forte.

In the end of the day it's up to the risk people are willing to take. I need my licence to work so I am not risking my livelihood for the sake of 3-5 minutes.

Also never seen any workers on the motorway, or very rarely, no wonder roadworks last years, no one seems to be working there.

On the point of getting caught.... There is no excuse whatsoever, normally these cameras are visible with plenty of warning, only a fool gets caught. We can't say the same about the camouflage new cameras on the M25, those are annoying.

I've been using Road Angel products for in excess of 15 years now as I do a fair bit of driving around the country. I drive in excess of 20K miles a year and always heed the warnings it gives for mobile or fixed cameras even if there isn't actually a mobile camera there that day. I do drive fairly enthusiastically and feel the £170 plus subscription is worth every pound plus it gives you your average speed through these systems.
It is obvious to me that it's all about revenue raising not safety so if you have a piece of kit that helps you it seems the way to go. I never leave home without it.

So busy re-writing it I left out the point!

I quite often find I'm getting looks of bewilderment from other drivers as I am keeping to the displayed speed requirement on the Road Angel but I have at least kept a clean licence.

What Road Angel device do you use?

You caught my interest saying they give you your average between cameras, I drive around 35 miles of average cameras commuting every day.

I have just bought the new Gem deluxe package from Halfords believe it or not because it comes with 4 months free subscription.
My TomTom 1005 also gives you average speeds through these cameras too (a subscription is also required) but of lately it seems to go bandy on the M25 don't know why.
