Claiming for damage via pothole
Discussion
Best of luck...you'll need it. I saw some stats that stated Bucks County Council only paid out in approx. 2% of claims, and even then the sums were paltry, nothing like the full cost of a the tyre in most cases, much less wheel, tyre and alignment etc.
I tried claiming last year and even though they were bang to rights (pothole had been reported over two weeks previously and it met their size/sharp edge criteria for needing immediate repair) they wriggled out of paying as the floods had just caused them to declare some kind of emergency which - you've guessed it - allowed them to ignore their obligations to have it fixed.

Yeah Best of Luck
we claimed against the council for two wheels and two tyres (same side) after driving through a pothole that looked like a puddle, turned out it was 3-4 inches deep and ragged sharp edges.
Well we submitted pictures maps documents even reported the pothole as it was dangerous and the council's own legal dept decided that no payment for council negligence!!!
Amazing that they decide whether a payout should be made not an independent arbitrator.
Anyway we had to pay over £700 for something that wasn't our fault. waste of time

This is why it's smarter to not drive right through the middle of a puddle, you have no idea what's in there but they are also a prime spot for debris to be, washing there and gathering by said rain water.we claimed against the council for two wheels and two tyres (same side) after driving through a pothole that looked like a puddle, turned out it was 3-4 inches deep and ragged sharp edges.

Having seen a young lad go barrelling through a puddle trying to splash pedestrians only to find a massive cinderblock from the construction site over the road was in the puddle. Wasn't much left of his NS front corner after he hit that at what must have been over 30mph in a 30 zone.
Needless to say, zero sympathy from anyone in that bus stop. He had to get out an assess the damage while a crowd of 20 people pointed and laughed at him. Serves the little st right, hope his mummy was very angry at her little angel for wrecking her car.

It's been there for half a year or so, surely they know as its one of the main roads in and out.
Already took some pictures of it
You'd think so, but people tend to moan about the holes, but not actually do anything about it. You can usually check what's been reported on either your local council or highways website.Already took some pictures of it
Went through this with Surrey CC - given their reputation of denying everything I reported it and let them reply denying liability under section 58 Highways act. They submitted their internal reporting showing no pothole when examined 4-6 weeks previously.
This took them about 2 months
In the reply I used the google streetmap showing the pothole in existance 18 months earlier.
£450 paid within 1 week of that...
