Whats the fastest that you've been let off for?

Only been pulled once, by an unmarked car, on the motorway and somehow got away with it, with just a large slap on the wrist.

Got a stern talking to and was told to be on my way after doing 46 in a 30. This was a month after passing my test.

75 in a 40. I don't think his speed gun was working properly as we both agreed on 60. A chat, and then on my way (aged 17 at the time).

Not too bad for 9 years' driving biggrin

I'd estimate around 120MPH (wasn't looking at the speedo!). Certainly well over 100 anyway

Had just picked up a new car, and was sitting at some traffic lights waiting to join a motorway sliproad. I noticed a motorbike behind me but couldn't see any more details as my windows were very heavily tinted and it was late at night. The lights went green and I booted it all the way down the sliproad and onto the motorway, with the bike following behind. After a few seconds it lit up with blue lights, so I slowed down and prepared to pull over, expecting to have my licence removed for quite a while. As it was, he simply waved at me to slow down and sped off.

I also got a €90 fine a couple of weeks back for 110MPH in a 70MPH limit in France, think I got off quite lightly there as well!

At least i'm not the only one over 100 then!

Passed the unmarked S60 doing at least 135.

oddly enough the actual speed was never discussed in our chat.

Some very positive experiences with plod over the years.

Been let off for numerous instances of excessive speed/ generally behaving like a wally, all when I was a young lad ofcourse.

60+ in a 30 was a notable example. Got pulled over by a panda car that was sat in a side street. Young female copper told me 'I appreciate you've got a nice car and you want to enjoy it, but slow down' (car was a poorly modified 1.3 Mitsubishi Colt!) and sent me on my way. Was pissing down with rain at the time too, scary to think how lucky I (as well as passengers/ pedestrians) was as a daft young driver.

Was even let off once by an old copper when I reversed into his panda car. Told me he was only following me because I had a bulb out. Breathalyzed me, said as there was no damage to either car that he'd let me drive away. Given that I was unaware of his presence enough to reverse into him, Im sure I was driving 30+mph for some time too...

I've always found by being polite, humble and acknowledging fault immediately that plod are pretty forgiving with regards to speed. I'm sure there's an element of luck involved too (bet there's plenty of jobsworth tw*ts out there), but my experience has been good. As soon as you start throwing out some nonsense about 'I was just moving with the flow of traffic' etc, it just comes across as defensive/ argumentative and lands you in sh*t.

I got let off for 81mph in my 5-series on the way back from Cadwell once. 81mph is apparently too fast when towing a trailer with a race car on it... I'm pretty sure they were ready to throw the book at me but I was contrite and apologetic and in the end they thanked me for acknowledging them and then leaving the motorway at the next junction rather than stopping on the hard shoulder of the A1M like "most people would've", and let me on my way. The remainder of the drive home was very chilled.

I've only ever been pulled once, went past him at the speed limit with my roof down and music playing about ten at night while he was going the other way. Once he was out of sight I caned it around a couple of roundabouts and slowed back down. I then saw some lights in the distance behind me flying around the same roundabouts. When I pulled away from some traffic lights after he'd caught up he pulled me over and slapped an anti-social ticket on me for speeding despite him never once actually seeing me do so. I've always wondered what the same copper would do if he actually caught someone speeding

111mph on the M6 South Bound between J36-35.

1830 making progress, not tailgating or bullying folds out of the way, just stretching the legs whet there was space to do so. Saw 130+ on occasions and it was probably during one of the spurts I passed an unmarked Vectra. When held behind traffic, checked mirrors in anticipation of the traffic clearing and a car was behind me. Just as the traffic cleared and as I was about to continue progress the blue lights of doom appeared.

Upon getting in the cop car (before he had even got out himself) I was all apologetic. When he showed me the speed, I was a little relieved but knew a ban was coming. After I explained myself he asked me, "what are you going to say to me to stop me writing you a ticket?" I said, "I'm going to be late!" He agreed and sent me on my way. Couldn't believe it!

Roughly 130mph. Very early one morning on the m6. Looked in the mirror to find it full of police car. Speedo then was showing 110 and I knew I'd slowed after a little squirt. Sat in the back of the car whilst a policeman showed me the video of him showing 118mph and me pulling away from him at a good rate. Thought the licence was gone.

However I received a compliment about my good lane discipline, I didn't lie to him, told him that I liked to drive fast but at (sort of) appropriate times. Traffic was zero, dry road and good light. He wrote me a ticket for 85 which was the slowest speed he had on video and recommended me for a speed awareness course.

I wasn't driving like an idiot, just a bit too fast.

To be fair most of the traffic police I have dealt with have been very decent about things.

On the other hand I got caught at 113mph last year and got 5 points and a 1400 pound fine. Ouch.

Conversely, a friend just went to a speed awareness course for 22 in a 20. Apparently the room was full of people who had been caught in exactly the same place, St Giles in Oxford, a spot in which I may or may not occasionally hit almost 40 as it is basically three lanes each way and good visibility.

I know that street well. Would be surprised if anyone sticks to 20 down there!

Same here; reckon I only got away with it because I was driving my mum, dad and sister home after a night out.

I'd picked up my new Cayman a few week previously and on this occasion was heading back home after a meeting fairly late at night, stretching it's legs a bit as it was the first real chance I had. This is on the M3, definitely into ban territory speedwise.
Caught sight of something catching up rapidly in the mirror so dropped back to maybe 90ish.
The patrol car pulled up beside me and the passenger looked over, wagged his finger at me, I nodded and off they went.

42 in a 30 at 3am.

I was on my way home from work and desperate for a piss, they followed me home with blue lights on (only half a mile from where they spotted me), I ran in, did my business, came out and had a chat with them. They let me off. I came very close to wetting myself and getting 3 points all in one night!
