Kind of on the lines of this post: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Was being tempted back into SLK55 ownership when I saw this awful thing:

The standard 55 looks right with the 4 exhaust tips...but 6?! WTF.

As for the lambo door conversion...

I also can't help but think those doors will just fly off the car in any kind of impact!

But even the standard CLK doesn't need 4 exhaust tips, it only needs 2.

Apparently it's a multiplier to produce the 'supercarness'!

Also nice Porsche alloys!

Presumably the owner thinks it looks better. After all, the four on the original were only there for aesthetics, two would be perfectly adequate.

This.

I find these mods actually help me when buying used, always grateful to the bell-ends who make it easy to rule out even clicking on their advert smile

Did you mean CLK or SLK? And are you referring to an AMG or a lower model? All the (recent) AMG models I am aware of have 4 exhaust tips as standard ([CL]A45 is arguable). "Need" is another conversation altogether.

Yes I have often wondered how far the manufacturers were going to take this, they are purely for show. I prefer a more subtle approach. I mean it's fairly bloody obvious the thing shifts if its pushing in excess of 400 BHP.

This thread has made me wonder, has any manufacturer released a car with more than four exhaust exits as standard?

Isn't there that Lexus thing with three stacked on each side?

Edit: no, it's two on each side vertically but still looks gash.

Not that I've seen (and just done AQG); the IS-F has the two stacked either side, of course.

For an answer to this, think back to the sensible days of the Porsche 928 or even the XJS exhausts.
