Tribute are actually 10 mins from me, always thought about popping in to have a look when driving by.

Z3 does make a decent base, someone just needs to bite the bullet and replace the windscreen to really give it a chance.

Trying convert a big hulking modern slab of German engineering, to look anywhere near the delicacy of an early Ferrari, it's like trying to make bratwurst look like tortellini.

I think the Coupe looks great, although I'd keep BMW badges myself, albeit the early 60's type. I'd love one built as a race inspired car, with basic cage, harnesses, dished steels etc.

Quick update on this thread - the black car was the first professionally finished coupe but it's in the Netherlands.

This is the first professionally finished coupe in UK - literally just finished. The (very lucky!) owner took inspiration from the Eric Clapton SWB and, yes whilst you can argue about degrees of accuracy, there's simply no denying it's a stunning looking car. I understand it will be at Stoneleigh on the build agents stand (Nubodi)

It would look great if it didn't have Ferrari badges. As it stands it looks utter st in every way because it's trying to be something it's not. wink

in the Netherlands they seem to use letters that look a bit like Ferrari but it says Erjee, also in the documents and the Ferrari horse is also just different, good find biggrin

and the horses upside down

It's the best looking kit I've seen in years. Very mature and based on what in its day was a good car. It should definitely have its own badges and not at all resemble Ferrari at all.

I wonder how it drives (yeah same as before, but...), I mean because of the different aero etc, also maybe windnoises more/less?

I love the look, but I would steer clear of the Ferrari badges.

I'd be tempted to leave it completely anonymous.

It really doesn't matter if you put the Ferrari badges on or not, it clearly tries to copy the well known lines of the 250swb, so the silliness remains.
Let the unaffordable stay out of reach. There are many iconic cars, in many price ranges, enjoy those without stigma.

Rubbish. First, because the 250 SWB is definitely not well known except by a very specific type of petrol head. Second, because this car's shape still works for everyone else.

And also because I'd rather see one of these as I'm driving than a Z3.

I'm very seriously tempted by this. I had a paint job done two years ago and it's still nearly mint. If I'd known about this then, I'd have been tempted to replace metal with fibreglass.

When it's due it's next coat of Ford Performance Blue, rather than trying to colour match, I think I'll see if these kits are still available smile.

Should I really be thinking about changing this...

into this...

Which then put it in to needing an iva which is expensive hence why these are becoming more popular to avoid the fees of iva.

Based purely on looks - YES

My only issue is that obviously it's no longer a convertible which is 99% of the reason to buy a Z3.

The Tribute convertible doesn't look right IMO.

I agree with all three comments.

Agree, although only the extremely dim-witted would think it was an actual Ferrari. Simply trying to scale the proportions down onto such a small donor car make it look like a kids pedal car. The "cobra" looks worse still....

Funnily enough the SWB and Tribute are both 14 feet in overall length, it's the position of the screen that throws it out - look at the door length.

Wonder what you'll make of this then - also Z3 based and will be finished at Stoneleigh:

A petrolhead(a hateful term) who doesn't know what a 250SWB is sounds like an English teacher who doesn't know who Shakespeare was . Anyway... a continuation or other exact replica(which features a pukka Ferrari V12 etc )is just fine. Anything else is a pastiche, which can induce a smile (of recognition or derision depending on the work)or a frown. Just don't call it a Ferrari , or even a 250SWB

Got my car back last Wednesday. Plenty more work to be done - alloy mouth and bumpers currently being fabricated, roll hoop to remove, seats to change etc. but very pleased with overall effect. It's running, and will remain, badgeless.
