My experience of the build quality is totally the opposite and I was very disappointed with the build quality of a DB9 I drove, I have lived with the Maserati for over a year and 8k miles so I probably have a better idea of its quality and abilities than you.
You stated that the Evora is faster but it isn't. I couldn't care less because it is plenty fast enough for the public road.
With regard to the handling it depends which model you drove, there are three suspension options and they make a big difference to how it drives, my car has essentially the Stradale set up and handles very well indeed. The Evora is a bit better but how often does that really matter in real world driving compared to the Maseratis vastly superior engine which has an effect on every mile you drive?
As I said, I like the Evora and might consider one in the future but the Maserati is in a different league, which it certainly ought to be given the difference in the list price.
We will have to agree to differ, but just to address your points

I have lived with the Evora for just over a year, so probably have a better idea of its abilities than you smile

The Evora 400 is way faster, the Evora S is faster than the Maser if you take the figures from Maser's own website. (By faster I mean 0-60 and general road driving, not v max)

Not sure what model it was, I know it was circa £110k new, MC possibly? It was about 6 months old this time last year.

The Maser definitely has a great engine without a doubt, the exhaust note is fantastic its smooth and powerful, but that does make it quicker than an Evora.

Maserati GranCabrio Sport

Evora n/a
Price: £54,000; Top Speed: 163mph; 0-62mph: 5.0sec;

Evora 400
Price: £72,000; Top Speed: 186mph; 0-62mph: 4.1 sec;

I put it to you that the Evora 400 is faster and that the slowest Evora is quicker to 62mph

They are in a different league price wise and the Maser is more luxurious, but they are different types of cars. I would compare the Maser to the V8v or DB9 and the M6, the Evora compares more to a Cayman or a 991.

Both are great cars and have their strengths and weaknesses, I don't think one is better or worse than the other, I do think one is more expensive and the quality is not what I would expect.

As I said, I don't care about the relative performance, the Maserati is more than fast enough for the public road but I do wonder why you are quoting figures for the slower convertible rather than the coupé that we are discussing?
Other than that I don't enjoy banging my head against a brick wall so I will leave you to your opinions.

Ok ok we get it you love your Evora, fantastic news but I don't know why an earth you're trying to compare stats of two cars that are in effect going for two completely different markets? You can sing your praises of an Evora all you like, I agree its a good sportscar but it is not where Id put my money if i was in that market with £70k to spend, not in a million years.

A Maserati MC Stradale Sounds expensive (or the standard GT for that matter), an DB9 Sounds expensive, an Evora in looks and sound alone less so. Its not about pure numbers its about how it will make a buyer feel, of owners of Maser GTs Ive spoken to all of them absolutely love them with one chap having had 4 (4.2 auto, 4.7 auto, 4.7 MC Shift, and now an MC Stradale and he loves the blend of GT comfort but can switch it up for more spirited driving for when you want to. The way he sees it is a more practical heavy 430 (whilst I appreciate most people don't have this view).

I just can't see many people wanting to chuck 70K at a lotus? You'd have to be seriously dedicated to the brand and handling to do so in my eyes, it sounds like a harsh assessment, but I can't see the Evora 400 churning out as much custom as a GT4 or a Cayman GTS for that matter. Im sure it'll be a great car, I just don't think its going to sell particularly well.

With relation to quality, the GT is italian and hand built what do you expect? Ive seen a fair few Astons with mismatched stitching, dodgy parts etc - its not uncommon in hand built cars to have defects even at this price level.

LOL I hear you but it is only a bit of paint the Larini exhaust was the cherry on top, quiet when commuting then full on Nascar when you hit the Sport Button

2nd Choice: MC Stradale

In future ^^^ that is all we need from Autotrader, we don't need to know your postcode sir!

Was actually having a conversation with the Multiple Maser owner the other day about this car, all MC Stradales came with Carbon Discs, we came to the conclusion that a previous owner must have been cutting costs when replacing them for steels rather than ceramic discs for some reason? Would definitely make me steer well away from that car - the ceramics make a massive difference on spirited drive hauling that weight to a stop!

That silver maser - Dislike the wheels, and not sure on the poo interior - personally prefer cream :P

As for the GT-R Couldnt ever buy one at that price it would just depreciate far too much too quickly imo, and although technically accomplished I think its a bit of a yobbo car, also (although I havent personally drive one) people I know who have test driven them said it left them a bit numb and dead as it was just so brutal and quick and accomplished you never feel like you're particularly having fun - and the interior is naff at this price bracket imo! (a badge snob review by me - still a nissan thats cost you 70 k biggrin )

The Evora S is a fantastic car, such satisfying handling it is a joy to drive, and I bet the 400 is going to be even better. Not quite extreme enough for me, well the Evora S, as I was looking at it as a 2nd/3rd car, used 1-2 times per week, so it needed to be very exciting - hence why I love the Ferrari experience. Will certainly be checking out the 400 & see how it stacks up.

For up to £70k I don't think you will be able to beat a 997 Turbo for a sports/super car that is useable daily.

I have a F430 Spider and I wouldn't even consider using it daily, would ruin the car. So do not go exotic, I don't think it works for a daily driver though I know some people manage it, but exotics suck at mundane driving and are stressful too. Great for a bit of fun or a blast when you are in the mood. Not much else!

I concur, think its wasteful to use something like a Ferrari as a daily (loses the specialty - nice quote from franchitti about using an F40 for a week and said it became less special the more he used it), as it always wants to be 'let loose' and not exactly practical to do so, also lacks a lot of gadgets more modern exec cars have, and you can have a phone call in a normal car whereas you can't really in a Fezza. Also they're mileage sensitive... Could go on, personally Id have an estate/barge/4x4 and a fast car for weekends but I guess not everyone sticks to that or wants to biggrin (thoughts of a useless procrastinating student biggrin )

Interesting thread, which I have finally read from the start. Is it not better to find a car that you love and see if you can afford rather than just buy a £70k car. What does your heart tell you to get? After it all it is your heart that will allow you to pay the running costs, enjoy your new steed and say f**k the depreciation.

Evora S daily driver here.
