First car, Classic Mini 850, three mates in the car, driving down some country lanes between Croxley Green and Chorleywood, came up to a nice little set of bends - 'Guys, look how this baby corners...' stuffed it through a hedge.

Nothing more than a few scratches, a wounded ego and three blokes pissing themselves.
Ha! That's almost identical to my story. August 27th 1988 - straight after passing my test I picked up 3 mates in my 1972 Mini and went for a hoon, and within 30 minutes they were pushing me out of a muddy ditch on a narrow country lane just outside Stonehaven. No major damage thankfully, just a broken plastic wheel arch spat, but my Dad spotted the damage after I got home and wasn't at all pleased as we'd spent the previous 6 months restoring the car. That's the one and only time I've seen my Dad go all 'silent angry' on me.

Going for a hoon one night on some country roads near Dumfries in my Dolomite Sprint. Arrived at an unexpected T junction and in addition found that the brakes had faded away to nothing. eekeek

Ended up in a farmyard with the front brakes glowing orange. frown

Came over the brow of a hill a bit too quickly and was presented with a queue of traffic all stopped for a set of temporary traffic lights which I did not see any warning sign for.

ABS going, pedal thumping underfoot, and a serious consideration as to whether the undergrowth/ditch combo was a better option...

I think we stopped a foot and a half short of impact. Silence for a second or two then the lights changed and we carried on. I turned to my mate and made a quip about how the driver in front must have been concerned, all while giving myself a bit of a mental rollicking not to do that again.

Driving my father's Vauxhall Astra early one morning when I was 18yrs old.
I was driving far too fast for the wet conditions.

Aquaplaned, resulting in car going all over the place.

Somehow I regained control without hitting anything.

I'd like to claim this was down too skill gained from a skid control course.

The truth is, it was more luck than driving skill.

Thirty two years later, I still slow down in wet conditions.

2 weeks after passing, heading up to Manchester uni for an open day...

In a standard L3 situation, all with a good gap, look at a lorry dropping water- point it out to my mate with me, look forward and the queue is braking....I anchor up and think I'm about to rear end the car in front (in reality there was a load of room and I wasn't) i swerve into L2, skidding sideways across that and L1...get it slowed and under control, now going far slower than the traffic flow and am rear ended by said HGV...

not ideal!

About 2 weeks after passing my test, driving down the main road in the town I lived in at the time.

I was ogling a bit of totty but looked for just a little bit too long... looked forward in time to see that the traffic in front has stopped and I just managed to stop in time...
Wimbledon fortnight
I was about 20
did the same thing in Wimbledon Broadway

except I never braked as I did not even see the cars had stopped

the car I rear ended rear ended the car in front

said totty just carried on walking ignoring the chaos her very cute bum had caused

the guy I hit was cool about it saying he only just stopped from hitting the car in front of him as he was also watching the totty smile

Driving my parents' Disco 3 through the country on a cold January evening. Stopped at a T junction. As I turned left I gave it a bit of boot (thinking "I've got loads of room, and the clever 4x4 system will sort out any problems").

Back end hit some black ice, and stepped out. A lot. I recovered it, but it was definitely an 'oh fk' moment.

The only other 'moment' I've had was in the same car, coming down an alpine pass a little too fast at night, when a deer jumped out in front. I was again reminded that the Disco is bloody heavy.

Man... I could write a book....

Noteably though i learned just what 250bhp in a 200sx was like after a 'watch this moment'. As i pirouetted exiting a corner in a cloud of smoke i'd hit nothing.

Knockhill - got frustrated with a chap bimbling around, went to overtake, too fast, target fixed and exited stage right. Detached two ribs and a collar bone.

I was heading into a corner too quickly and understeered. I made the classic mistake of braking harder and turning the wheel more. I was locked up and effectively a passenger as I hit the armco.

After being winded and a dusting down, I got back into the go kart and finished off my other laps at a heady 5mph. I was a pretty tough 10 year old. wink

The only 'moment' I can think of is driving down a B road, blind bend and around the bend is a proper HGV taking up the whole of the road, I have a choice of hit the lorry (not really an option I wanted to consider) or go for the trees...I end up about a foot away from the trees and had to reverse out.
