Something not quite right.

Mine had done 190k and then died! Before that though it would do 45mpg driven like it was stolen.

Check the turbo pipe. EGR valve could be blocked/stuck. Blocked fuel filter? Handbrake on!?

Hot oil is a bit odd though, I cant remember if these dump oil heat into the cooling system, from memory they have their own radiator. It does have enough oil in, doesnt it? Possible that something could be blocked... be surprised, but its possible the oil pick up is blocked in the sump.

Throw it away (to a scrapper, or WBAC). Doesn't exactly sound like something to save- time served and sometimes better to pull the plug, for all sorts of reasons.
You can be stubborn and keep going, but there is a tipping point.

Not remotely odd if you run full load at only 55mph.

If it was really a sticking brake on either the car or the caravan, running against it for that length of time would have made it very obvious indeed. The heat would be incredible, and you'd stuggle to miss the smell or the noise when it wore all the way through the pads/shoes, which wouldn't take very long.

Scrap the car, sell the caravan and then go on a decent holiday?
