Hi,ive got a corsa B 1.2 16v and yesterday it has started misfiring and sounds like its only running on 3 cylinders. It struggles to accelerate in any gear and shudders and judders aswell as makes a flapping sort of sound. The only way ive found to clear it is give it a 90mmoph drive down the mway but it does still come back.

Any advice on what it could be?

Have you confirmed it's actually got more than 3 cylinders?.....

Yes (if it is that)

Looks to be about £25-£40. Not familiar with the corsa but they seem to include all four coils in one long unit that will plug onto the spark plugs on top of the engine.

He'd them go on polo's and it feels pretty much as you describe

Think the 1.2 16v is a 4 pot

Only the 1.0 was a 3 cylinder. I would try a coil pack first as Vauxhall's do tend to have an appetite for them. When was it last serviced? If you know a local garage I would see if they can put it on an OBD scanner most places have them even Joe bloggs down the road should have a £40 Ebay jobbie which will be more than adequate to find faults on what is a basic car which does not even have canbus.

Are you sure it's not a 3 pot with 5.333333 valves per cylinder?..... biggrin

If the 1.2 Ecotec is anything like the 1.6, the coil pack is a common fault.

On the 1.6, you remove a cover on the rocker cover, undo two bolts and withdraw the whole unit from the spark plugs. It's a simple task.

I would not keep driving it if it has a definite missfire. You will get borewash and this will lead to all sorts of problems.
