Beautiful cars! And a very generous gesture it is too!
I understand the donors desire to make a difference, but the RNLI? They hold funds of £250M, honestly! So fking what! Do you know how much it costs to build a lifeboat and just how fking much it costs to run such an organisation?
Troll!

I hear through the grapevine an offer of £8m has already been made for the red 250.
A very generous bequest to a deserving cause.
and I thought my offer of £19,000 had won! and to be honest, I am now the owner of a 250 SWB dust cap...A very generous bequest to a deserving cause.
For me, that 250 is about as good as a car can get.

What a bizarre thing to say. Designing and building lifeboats is an expensive business, not to mention running the things. If the government were in charge, that 250 million wouldn't go very far, I'm willing to bet.
Can you imagine the scope of risk assessment if it were under the public sector? They wouldn't be allowed to rescue anyone.truck71 said:

Exactly.I'm told by a friend, Health & Safety Officer for London Fire Brigade?!?! That if they followed HSE guidelines to the letter, no fire would be extinguished ever!

Hi Mr Furious. I am in no way taking anything away from the heroic contribution of our lifeboat crews but having spent time looking at the funding of the lifeboats, that of the rescue helicopters that also work in the same area and other equally deserving causes, it appears to me that RNLI get a completely disproportionate slice of the donor cake. Rather than fume based on your outrage that anyone should question donations to RNLI, can I suggest you too look at the finances and "where the money goes" then comment again. For example, the London RNLI flag day raises a vast haul from people living far from the sea, when children's charities receive fractions of their tally. All is not as you may assume with "what's fair".
My money. My choice. You obviously don't like how they spend it, fair enough.
I don't like how some charities spend their donations. Ergo I do not give to them.
What a great gesture to leave them to the RNLI to auction off. I believe the RNLI are hoping the sale covers the cost of 2 new boats.
The yellow 250 above is going up for auction at the end of the month http://rmauctions.com/ve15/villa-erba/lots/1960-fe...
As for the RNLI funds you can say that with any charity, cancer research UK (and a very sexist marketing regime), help for heroes, even Vulcan to the sky.
The fact is we get to choose who we give to charity and this gentleman has decided it will be the RNLI. For me it's a very worthwhile cause.

What a thoroughly noble gesture.
He's dead, and has no heirs. And RNLI is one of the wealthiest charities in the UK.
Charities are no different to businesses in that they try to expand and grow. Charities will spend any amount of money, as much as they can get.
RNLI get a disproportionate share of charitable cash, a prudent donor would seek a less obvious choice.
This is kind of crazy to me that people would attempt to downplay the generosity of giving money to charity, even upon death, and then have the gall to dictate who they feel is an appropriate charity or not! That is the internet I suppose.
I for one thing this is great thing and if I could make it happen in any possible way I would do many things to own that 275, absolutely stunning.
