I see these going sideways around corners on a regular basis, they seem very tail happy!

Chances are this is the LPT model? Or did I miss where it said HPT? Either way its 135bhp or 165ish bhp. Simple mods will se these up to 200bhp, not much more as the little 13c turbo struggles after 190bhp.

You will find a lot of these being broken for the engine and box. As I have done to fit the engine into my 245, this seems to be the trend now.replace the b230e to the b230FK engine, H cam, 15G Turbo (from 850 T5), T5 injectors and a host of other upgrades will see my 240 running 230-240bhp easily.

The 940 will never be "old skool", 740 maybe... but the true "old skool" volvo brage is the 240 biggrin

Good shed!
".... But the true "old school" volvo BRAGE is the 240 biggrin "

Is that a car that utter tits drive around in then,or that just lets a pair of tits sit comfortably....?????

But why would you, the 2.3 High Pressure Turbo is the pick of the engines in these, the V6 isnt very tunable, it wont do this for example,

At least not as well
Think you will find the 9 series are inline, 24V 6's
Cheers, didnt realise that, every day is a school day !

Still, would have the 4 cyl turbo over the inline six in one of these as they are so tunable and hillarious when you see one going sideways, these arent actually that heavy by modern standards, the ultimate sleeper.

I recently bought a 248k Audi A4 1.8T quattro sport, it had been a company car, the guy who had it bought it off the company and other than when it went in for a service, he was the only person to drive it.
Absolutely brilliant condition, cracking service history, everything works including the aircon.
And for this magnificence, I paid him........... £400
Proper shed

I daily a 240 that I saved from the scrapheap about six months ago for the princely sum of £150.

It's a complete tank. But does feel like it would go on forever, far beyond 300.

My old man had a 940 2.3 Turbo. Amazing barge biggrin

I've not been in many other cars with as good a ride quality. Similar to an E34 SE

Terrible shed - you can get much better Ovlovs at that money. It's worth precisely what the scrap dealer would pay to take it away and no more. My dad bought an 80k mile C70 coupe with all the toys for £700. Naughty step for shed.
So he bought a used Mondeo for 700 notes. Oh the joy.

Buy the tank version if you can

The 2.4 L D24TIC makes some racket when you start it up on a cold day, but goes like hell!

Had one of these a few years ago - the really are cavernous inside with the seats down.

Drove it up to Lake District to pick up some serious pressure-washing equipment, including a 650 litre plastic water tank, which as you can imagine, was a bit bulky.

The fact that the rear tailgate opens full-width really helps with what one can fit in these things.

After I sold the car, I needed to transport the kit a short distance to a job - I swear there was no arrangement that meant it WOULD fit in my Dad's Combo van, yet it would fit easily in the Volvo...

The water tank ended up going to and from the job in the back of a 330D Convertible, in the "converted" state !

The great thing with these is that you don't for a moment think its a sports car so you drive it in a nice way and just enjoy it - look for one with a wood steering wheel - loved the one i bought for that.

Great cars!!!!

Brilliant shed, I've a 1999 V70 2.5TDI called Margo that is similarly indestructable and actually pretty rapid. Its such a hoot to barrel along in!

Whilst not a 940, this is pretty funny:

I called up about that one a week or so ago, it'd already sold frown

A good solid car, no doubt - but if you want to run it on a budget the fuel bill may be something of an eye opener, woefully bad on the old jungle juice.

Sorry I just dont get this

These cars were nothing special when new, nothing special now. Are we all going to get weepy eyed over a toyota avensis or a nissan almera in 30 years time?

So back in the day before the internet, when you picked up Autocar or Motor magazine did they shout out about the Volvo? Safe? yes, practical? yes, interesting? err no!

Volvo only got interesting when ford took over and some decent chassis were put underneath them.

Really we have to stop looking through rose tinted glasses, just because some of these cars survive does not make them any better now than they used to be. Im not just having a go at this shed, theres been plenty that really were un-remarkable when new and can never be described as anything else now.

Moved to Italy in one with another engineer.

Faster than a Fiat Panda and had a louder horn! Key . . . . Obviously

Even slept 8 people in it after a beach party, nothing like the Italians drumming on the windows, trying work out how we've gotten so lucky.
