RE: Ford Mustang GT: Driven

Fabulous to see something a bit different finally on the market in the UK. It's far more desirable to me than the M4 or RS5 let alone the German cars that it actually competes with on price.
I'm going to wait a few years, then hopefully re-form my perfect two-car garage - V8 Mustang and Caterham FezBob said:
Old school thrills....considering we're celebrating 30 years of the BMW M5 and the stats for this mustang are so similar to the M5 E39:
5.0 V8- 4.9 V8
420bhp@ 6500rpm - 394bhp @ 6600rpm
391lb/ft @ 4250rpm - 369lb/ft @ 3800rpm
0-62mph: 4.8s - 4.8s
c1650kg - c1800kg
Manual transmission
RWD
It would be good to see Pistonheads write an article how it compares with a car that been out of production for over 10 years and is regarded as one of our favourite drivers cars.
Now there's an idea! One to follow up when the cars arrive in the UK hopefully...5.0 V8- 4.9 V8
420bhp@ 6500rpm - 394bhp @ 6600rpm
391lb/ft @ 4250rpm - 369lb/ft @ 3800rpm

So Ford have managed to take more pre-orders for the Mustang than Vauxhall sold Monaros in total? Shows the power of a badge, I suppose.
I know what you are saying but we don't know yet how many of the Ford orders are for the proper car or are orders for the lady shave model from soppy tits who thought Beverly Hills 90210 was acceptable television. But, in general, Ford has a superior sporting pedigree in the UK than any GM brand so I personally would expect it to sell better as it'll reach out further into the general public and not just with specialist fans.

But surely none (or at least very few) of the 1200 pre-orderers have driven it yet? Or have the dealers had demonstrators in for a while?
No one has even seen a proper UK RWD model yet, even the press I ordered because I want a Mustang, unfortunately some things have already changed to meet with Euro requirements, hence the white rear lights not the iconic Mustang red
I have sat in an imported US one in the colour/trim that I have ordered plus I hired a '95 in LA in '95 and a '72 5.0 'vert back in '92, again in LA.
That's my very little experience of the car

I wonder how many of the Mustangs that hit UK shores will be V8 versions?
I'd guess not that many.
It's good to see something different over here but I don't think it will make much of an impact on sales of Audis, BMWs and Mercedes at all.
Funnily enough, talking to dealers and looking on forums, the majority have gone for the V8 in the UK.I'd guess not that many.

Strangely, a lot of Americans have gone for the EcoBoost because they are worried about economy and the price of gas

Quite the opposite I would have thought - a 2.3 turbo 4-pot for £29k, or a 5.0 V8 for £33k? No brainer.I'd guess not that many.
The PH orders thread is nothing but V8s. OK, that's PH, but most Brits interested in American muscle/pony cars associate them with V8s.
