Fabulous to see something a bit different finally on the market in the UK. It's far more desirable to me than the M4 or RS5 let alone the German cars that it actually competes with on price. smile
yes I'm going to wait a few years, then hopefully re-form my perfect two-car garage - V8 Mustang and Caterham thumbup

Surprised that wasn't mentioned in the article, seems quite important.
It's been widely reported already though.
I'm not in the market for this sort of car, so haven't been following the 'wide reports'. The article caught my passing interest.

Old school thrills....considering we're celebrating 30 years of the BMW M5 and the stats for this mustang are so similar to the M5 E39:

5.0 V8- 4.9 V8
420bhp@ 6500rpm - 394bhp @ 6600rpm
391lb/ft @ 4250rpm - 369lb/ft @ 3800rpm
0-62mph: 4.8s - 4.8s
c1650kg - c1800kg
Manual transmission
RWD

It would be good to see Pistonheads write an article how it compares with a car that been out of production for over 10 years and is regarded as one of our favourite drivers cars.
Now there's an idea! One to follow up when the cars arrive in the UK hopefully...

Think back a decade or so to the time of the £30K Vauxhall Monaro and remember how popular that car was - we can't resist a cheap V8!
Indeed, over 3 years of availability they did sell a whole 800 of them hehe

So Ford have managed to take more pre-orders for the Mustang than Vauxhall sold Monaros in total? Shows the power of a badge, I suppose.

Don't think its anything to do with the badge.

And inflation - assuming it was £30k in 2004, the BoE calculator puts it at about £41k in 2014.

errrr The car?
But surely none (or at least very few) of the 1200 pre-orderers have driven it yet? Or have the dealers had demonstrators in for a while?

I know what you are saying but we don't know yet how many of the Ford orders are for the proper car or are orders for the lady shave model from soppy tits who thought Beverly Hills 90210 was acceptable television.

But, in general, Ford has a superior sporting pedigree in the UK than any GM brand so I personally would expect it to sell better as it'll reach out further into the general public and not just with specialist fans.

I wasn't referring to the "Ford" badge, I was referring to the "Mustang" one. smile

The article states that the monaro was really popular? They're rare as fk compared to other 30k cars!

Lovely performance specs for 30k.....that'll only net you an M135i from BMW. Can't believe it'll sell a huge amount looking as it does.

I wonder how many of the Mustangs that hit UK shores will be V8 versions?

I'd guess not that many.

It's good to see something different over here but I don't think it will make much of an impact on sales of Audis, BMWs and Mercedes at all.

No one has even seen a proper UK RWD model yet, even the press biggrin

I ordered because I want a Mustang, unfortunately some things have already changed to meet with Euro requirements, hence the white rear lights not the iconic Mustang red frown

I have sat in an imported US one in the colour/trim that I have ordered plus I hired a '95 in LA in '95 and a '72 5.0 'vert back in '92, again in LA.

That's my very little experience of the car biggrin

Funnily enough, talking to dealers and looking on forums, the majority have gone for the V8 in the UK.

Strangely, a lot of Americans have gone for the EcoBoost because they are worried about economy and the price of gas biggrin

Quite the opposite I would have thought - a 2.3 turbo 4-pot for £29k, or a 5.0 V8 for £33k? No brainer.

The PH orders thread is nothing but V8s. OK, that's PH, but most Brits interested in American muscle/pony cars associate them with V8s.
