RE: Toyota GT86 facelift details

If it doesn't seem long that there was another GT86 facelift story, that's because it wasn't! Back in October the 2015 model year range was announced with the Primo, Aero and Giallo models plus an interior update. Perhaps that car was late or this one is early because the 2016 MY GT86 is already here.
There's another special coming soon too!This isn't an overhaul for Toyota's coupe, and there still isn't a really fast one, but a few interesting changes have been incorporated. The Primo is now on 16-inch wheels - because skids are more important than looks, right? - and costs £22,700. Purchase one before the end of June and there's another £505 off, taking it to £22,195.

There are new wheels and colours apparently available on the options list without Toyota yet confirming what they are. The Aero tested on PH recently is now exclusively manual and its black 18-inch wheels are available on other models.
Not that excited? Yeah. Toyota does say there's a new special edition joining the range in this summer with details to be announced soon. The rest of the 2016 range is available to order now with the first customer deliveries in July.

Will be interesting to see if these changes make a difference, I doubt it.
Our local Toyota dealer has given up on them, they were proving very hard to shift. The new MX-5 starts at £18k, which is in the ballpark of where the GT86 should have been from the start.
I suspect the die has been cast, which is a shame. I'm sure its one of those cars where history will be kinder to it than the present.

18k for a well equipped 200bhp sports coupe? Maybe 15 years ago but they would not make any money on them at that price now! Having said that it is good to see the price has gone down and also that a more basic spec is now available as well which will hopefully help to widen its appeal a little.Our local Toyota dealer has given up on them, they were proving very hard to shift. I still think it's looks like something hyundai would have knocked out in about 2003, those wheels in the top pic also aren't doing it any favours.
I get why it exists, I just think they could have done a much better job with the looks. Even the last celica was better looking than this and the supra still looks 10x better today.
Also I couldn't live with a car that looks to most people like a sports car but goes like a warm hatch.

It's not the badge, it's the absence of power. What is it, an 8 second to 60mph car? That just isn't attractive for the market it's aimed at.
I'm all for what I hear of more and more 'slow fast cars', as in cars that can be properly exploited on UK roads. Has to be a 6 second to 60mph in the stats for that I think. 3 or 4 seconds is just absurd and I think you rarely push the car on a UK road, but 5 to 6 seconds needs to be where this car is at.

Sub-6s to 60? The 370Z is around about 5 seconds (bit less, bit more depending on model) which is 328bhp and to keep it down to £27.5K ish, no posh lightweight materials meaning 1500+kg. Again, not what Toyobaru designed the BRZ86 to compete against.RedTrident said:

It's not a Subaru option, Litchfield do one.Comparing to something like the S2000, the BRZ86 is about the same weight (a few kilos lighter, depending on the info source) and 30bhp down. I'd be interested to see if a bit of modding could claw back that 30bhp deficit (Litchfield claim about 12bhp from a Milltek exhaust while shedding a few extra kilos) and see how it compares to the highly regarded S2000.
Further ETA: Yup, exhaust and remap they reckon yields 25bhp.

Two at work and the owners are very happy with them ( and the owners could afford more expensive cars if they wanted them)When I don't need a car for a learner, I intend to get one to accompany my carrera.
That said, a supercharged one with about 250hp would be just about perfect.
