RE: Toyota GT86 facelift details
Discussion
I bought my BRZ new two months ago. No complaints about the power here - just like the Mx5 you need to keep your momentum through the corners rather than just mashing the accelerator on the straights. The BRZ has great handling and the lack of grip on the Primacy tyres suit it well.
I suspect that a lack of competitive finance deals keep many people away, but the residuals on the BRZ are not bad at all.

I've started seeing a few over the last month or so.
Could be because a decent used one can be had privately for around £13-£15k.
£15k is what they should have sold them for new and they would have shifted a stload more.
And a supercharger? That's the price of a low spec Fiesta.Could be because a decent used one can be had privately for around £13-£15k.

IMO the reason is hasn't sold that well in the UK is the badge.
I'll go with that....plus the interior and exterior design looked dated the moment it was made, and it's on paper stats put off the stat-lovers.It had a few good points:
RWD
Engineered for fun over outright grunt
Driving position
CoG
reliability
tuneability
All this lack of take-up means it'll soon be a modern classic no?

Is this true, though?I'm a Toyota salesman, and have been for 11 years. Although it was never destined to be a volume seller, it is still selling less than anticipated. I'm a big fan and most of the people who drive it love it, we just don't get enough serious people in, perhaps put off by the stats, the badge, or the price?

Very few people are interested in driving, and the ones that are are possibly not in the position to buy a (de facto)2 seater car.

They leave the factory with 7,100(?) limit but may be safely mapped to 8,000 if you use v-power. Not much point though as max BHP is at a tad over 6,000 RPM.
That isn't quite correct, redline is 7400/7500 and limiter is presumably 200rpm or so above that and max power is at 7k standard.Artie Fufkin said:
I'm gonna get a GT86 so I can re-live my youth. I didn't care about speed then and it sure doesn't bother me now. Just give me an involving drive.
OH YES !I had four of these over the years (lthird one was only 2 years old at the time). The hand brake was so powerful, locking both rear wheels instantly to, err 'aid turning' was easy unlike the crap hand brakes on modern cars
Only had 110bhp and was not light but great to drive with double wishbone front and a properly located (compared to a Capri) live rear axel. Some 400lb coils and bilstein dampers and it would jump well too.
It's a good reminder that outright power is only part of the story in a fun to drive car.

But peak power is only part of the story. If you can hold the lower gear longer, you can maintain the higher torque at the driven wheels before it gets reduced after a gear change. It all depends how fast the torque curve falls of after peak power.Save Ferris said:

The original ad (that was banned) did try but I have not seen any marketing for this car since that advert and I must be in the segment that this car is aimed at.

Yep, just checked my speedo; 7,400

very strange, I've seen countless dyno plots from these cars are standard ones are all around the 6750rpm mark, remaped usually 7000Max power is definitely lower. Mine's been on RR twice, before and after remap - both times peaked at a little over 6,000.
