I like them but would not buy one brand new. But I would probably not buy most cars brand new.

The used values seem to be holding up very well same for the hatch Subaru that was mentioned earlier. This happens to be my favourite Impreza also. Love the wide arches in the same way as I do on the Clio 197/200.

I wonder if Toyota/Subaru had done more enticing finance packages they would have maybe sold a few more but perhaps they expected the used values to drop quicker than they have.

I see a few around Edinburgh.

...But I see them quite a lot. I don't know how many are on the roads, but they are a relatively common sight in different colours, not the same one, around here.

I rather like it on the 16s to be honest. Pleasing amount of tyre plumpness (quite retro actually). Car has a pleasing simplicity to it I rather like.

I thought they couldn't get any worse than the original GT86 wheel, but the design of those 16s vomit

Does it mention the tyre size for the 16" alloys anywhere? Is it a 205/55 perhaps?

Why is it proving so difficult to put some decent bloody wheels on this car?

The OEM wheels on my old Celica were soft like dairylea but all was forgiven because they looked fantastic. Just plain-old silver with 6 fat spokes. Simple and reminiscent of a motorsport wheel. Would suit a GT86 down to the ground.

How do you know how many I see?

As it happens I see them very often -probably on most days around the South Manchester & Cheshire areas
Perhaps it's just a North West thing. Seen plenty on Merseyside in addition to the areas you've mentioned.

There's a decent (although not enormous) number of them around here. I've never seen a BRZ, though.

I love it.

More power and even smaller wheels please!

A sign of the times, I guess, that a fair proportion even of us 'enthusiasts' seem to prefer big wheels and a power figure to brag about rather than a 'pure' driving experience?

The sales figures speak for themselves - if there was a big market for this kind of car then sure Mazda would surely have made an MX5 'GT' a long time ago?

205/55/16 sounds like a pretty good balance for a sports car to me, a higher profile tyre than that would probably start to significant hurt turn-in.

Also I couldn't live with a car that looks to most people like a sports car but goes like a warm hatch.
Me neither, getting blown into the weeds by an X5 is embarrassing in a sports car hehe

Having never raced anyone on the road, I don't really find this a problem. smile

It needs another 100bhp and bigger and better wheels. Those look like halfords finest.

scratchchin Facelift. What facelift?
Most owners who don't like the wheels have replaced them. Does a few more colours and lowering of the price count as a facelift then?

I see quite a few in West Yorks too. Not on an every day you can expect to see one basis, but regularly enough for it not to be a novelty - at least as often, if not more, than I see, for example, things like 370Zs, Peugeot RZs, Focus STs, 'real' Golf Rs and the like (despite every man and his dog having the latter, it seems). The only reasonably comparable car I see more of is the MX5. Dare I say that the popularity of the GT/BRZ car is quite geographically-sensitive? If we assume you'd have to be someone half-way interested in the act of driving to buy one anyway, it's not fancy enough / the right brand for urban trendies, it's not fast enough/comfy enough for big motorway users, and it's not cheap enough for those on a really tight budget. It suits someone who is on an OK salary but doesn't have a huge amount of cash to spend, probably lives in a suburban/rural area, and has a shortish A/B road commute - so a Northern car, rather than a Southern one, if we want to play geographic stereotypes.

I don't quite get the 'its been a disaster' sentiment many say on here. Were sales targets ever made public? I doubt very much Toyota or Subaru expected to be selling billions of them every day - that's not its purpose. Back in the day, how many Celicas and MR2s did Toyota sell? Not as many as we might imagine, I'd guess. Having said that, if it is a commercial flop, its a bit of a sad indictment of the car-buying public. I do agree, though, that much as a dose of power might undermine its core ethos, it would make it a more attractive proposition to the average buyer.

I think some posters need to get some 'upgrades' down below. hehe

For that type of car fun is more important to me than massive power. The price is a little against it compared to a new MX-5, but I still want one next.
