I was fortunate to experience my first MM from the passenger seat of the bronze C Type no.236.
What a rush! The police were fantastic and some positively encouraged spirited driving out of town, being happy to help and I suspect welcoming the chance to let their hair down too.

I saw you! The car looked excellent. 'Spirited driving' is a nice euphemism, I may borrow that!

We used a SIATA, but the consensus seems to be that the Italian cars are too fragile, many said the British cars are ideal, we met a guy who got all the way through on his first attempt, in a TR2, but we also met many people who got through in a wide variety of cars, without any support or problems, including a fabulous 'Gullwing'. Opinion of almost all though was Porsches always finish.......my view is that whatever you decide to enter, use it as your daily car for months before the event, and you should be ok.

I hope that yours wasn't the Siata that was still in bits in the Novotel carpark after midnight the night before the race had even started? Whilst originally I was disappointed not to be in something similar this year, part of me was relieved then that I didn't have to worry about reliability this time. Best of luck next time though! smile

I was in the Mercedes MM tribute this year, and was using it as a trial run before doing the real thing next year. It was still an unbelievable experience racing through the beautiful scenery, visiting historic towns, and most of all seeing the enthusiastic crowds all shouting "Gas!" at every opportunity. I don't know what speeds you guys were doing in the old cars, but 'spirited' hardly comes close to describing what the modern cars were doing - all apparently with the blessing of the police (some even applauded us at one point!). Unfortunately we didn't see much of the historic cars on the road as we always set off before them, only having a chance to drool over them at the beginning and end, and the odd time check such as at Monza. As I said, I hope to be doing the real thing next year so now have a bit of a head versus heart decision to make - I would love to do it in a pretty Italian, but the sensible choice will be either British or German. I just hope I get an entry, may well have to pay for a 'sponsorship package' to ensure it though. Still, if all else fails, doing the tribute again, wouldn't be a bad second choice option. wink

Good pic.

That car doesn't look as comically small as some I've seen on the MM.

Some really would look at home going round a fairground ride with 5 year olds in them.

Replying to Daisy Duke, yes you are right, mine was the car in bits at the Novotel, even today it's still in bits but now in the UK. Whilst you might not have seen so many of the classic at least in the Merc you will have made it to all the parties.....some consolation.
